Maybe I'm a giant pig, but how do people forget to eat?

Quote  |  Reply

I have never done this in my life, but I hear it fairly often so it's gotta be a relatively common thing. What happens? Are you just not hungry? How do you not get hungry if you don't eat? I'm so jealous of these people!

Things I will forget:

  • pay bills
  • return a phone call
  • pick up drycleaning

Things I will never forget to do:

  • EAT

LOL.  For me it's usually I'm somewhere and I get hungry, but I don't have access to food at that moment.  (not as big of an issue now that I sit at a desk all day now)  Anyway, the hunger passes and I just forget that meal.  Granted I'm STARVING by the next one.  I haven't forgotten a meal in years...maybe that's why there's a second person attached to my butt!

I rarely "forget" to eat when meal time rolls around but I will often forget to PLAN to eat and then I either don't have enough time or there's nothing suitable so I'd rather go without.
Yes, somehow filling my face is a priority in my life. A hobby. A joy. Even if it's scarfing down healthy food...I had a boyfriend once who forgot to eat all the time, but he was insane. Longer story that goes with that...
i used to forget to eat.  skip breakfast, miss lunch, scarf down a bag of chips at three o'clock in the afternoon, then eat whatever i could get into my mouth fastest for dinner.

i changed.  now i'm constantly thinking about my next mini-meal.

I've forgotten to eat lunch plenty of times. I hate when that happens because I work in a remote area, far away from any kind of restaurant so the only lunch option if I don't bring my lunch with me (and that isn't as often as it should be), is the dining hall.  And if I miss their hours - I'm SOL.

However, if I forget to eat lunch, I always remember to eat dinner -- and on the early side.   Then I go with the 4 pm early bird dinner time.

I don't really understand how people eat all night long.  Like after dinner... Once I've had dinner, I don't want any more calories.  And I don't like to eat too late either.  So if I haven't had dinner before 9 pm, I'll just wait til breakfast. And that goes for fruit juice late in the evening too. No thanks.

I think I've just gotten set in my ways ahead of schedule to save time for accomplishing other feats of aging later.

I'm with you, spirochete.  Food is always the first thing on my mind.  It's a hobby and a joy.  If that makes me a pig, then oink me up.  LOL

 Hehe

I think everyone loves good food. My body won't let me forget to eat. I think I might have some blood sugar thing or something. I'll get light headed or crabby (I know, unthinkable) if I don't eat. I'm fascinated with kell's answer. That just doesn't happen to me. I mean there are times I am not hungry, everyone has those. If I skip a meal I do it on purpose.

I guess this is one of those mysteries I'll never solve

I don't forget to eat.... and I also don't forget to test my blood sugars 6 times a day. (Ahhh.... the joys of being diabetic...)

MOLLY

My friends talk about forgetting to eat ALL THE TIME. I don't understand it either. I can't imagine forgetting to eat, especially since I'm ALWAYS hungry

I don't forget to eat as most of my days are planned out. I like fitting my day's food together into a puzzle. Like, enough protein, enough carbs, enough fat, just the right amount of sugar, less sodium than yesterday...

It's like food tetris :D

Food is high on my priority list but I have forgotten to eat before. This only happens when I am extremely stressed, working too hard and under allot of presser.

Sometimes yes I forget to eat. Its seems to be an ongoing issue for me and has been for years but is getting better. Sometimes I eat breakfast and get busy (house cleaning, kids, errands etc) that eatting is the last thing on my mind. Sometimes it will be 2 or 3 o'clock before I remember and then start to get hungry. Its not like I make a conscience effort to not eat its like my mind and my body just does not think of food.

That's the part that baffles me because my body would never let me do that. It's totally impossible for me and I'm so intrigued by people like you who, which actually seems like the norm really

I wish I had a way to explain it but I can't. Another thing is I have never really had that really starving type hungry feeling. Even in all those times I hardly ate I never felt that. The closest I have ever felt to that was last week I got very shaky like my legs and arms etc and it last a good 15-20 mins (I was picking up take out). But yeah I don't get that feeling so thats why I almost have to have real scheduled feeding times (man that sounds weird).
Omg. I wonder the same thing. (And get a little jealous of the people that do forget, lol.) I never have, never will. I think about food all the time.

I can imagine being too busy to eat, but you can bet I'd be thinking about it, especially when my stomach starts rumbling.

You're not a giant pig. Or if you are, I am too.

I forget to eat when I'm too wrapped up in doing something, such as:

  • reading a really good book
  • writing papers/lab reports the night before its due
  • studying
  • drawing/painting (can keep me occupied for hours upon hours at a time, during which I don't think about food at all)
  • watching entire seasons of TV shows at one time
  • MMORPGs

I guess I get hungry afterwards, but I don't remember overeating after those things. I binge-eat under other circumstances (stress, off the top of my head).

when you really get into something its easy to forget about eating....

i have forgotten from drawing too much, from playing games too much, from sleeping too much (hehe)...mmm...those are the big ones for me.

I've always wondered this too. I actually have to keep snacks everywhere I go (including the car) in case I get hungry. I get unbelievably crabby if I'm hungry and no food is available. I forgot to eat ONCE in my entire life. It was the day of my sister's wedding, and I had a bride to get ready, a reception site to decorate, a wedding cake to decorate and deliver, and I had to get myself cleaned up enough to look presentable. I remember being shocked when I realized I hadn't eaten.

My mom, on the other hand, forgets all the time. When she remembers, she'll often open up a can of beans and just eat them cold out of the can. She never actually gets really hungry the way I do, even though she certainly appreciates good cooking. And yes, she has been skinny all her life.

Im forgetful but luckily my body clock has a hunger alarm which is pretty reliable.

If Im busy, I sometimes hit the snooze button though.

The hunger message only gets sent to your brain when your blood sugar changes, so how often you get hungry is going to vary from person to person.  If you get the message and you ignore it, your brain won't keep getting the message like it would if you were thirsty.

For me it depends on how many other things are going on in my brain, I rarely eat because I'm actually hungry, and If I'm busy it's easy to forget to eat.
