Maybe a little confirmation?? Please!!?

Quote  |  Reply
I know there has been a gabillion and a half post about this topic, but all i need is a little confirmation.

My BMR is 1658.

I multiplied that number by 1.55 because I exercise 3-5 times a week.

Therefore I should be eating roughly ~1600 cals to lose 2lbs a week... right?? I am just making sure because I have not had a weight loss in about 3 weeks. Sometimes i catch myself eating below what i should, but i have been watching it lately and still no weight loss. Any help is appreciated!! :) Stats: 22, 181pounds, 5'8"

Um, well, here's what I came up with. I hope an expert can pipe in and advise if I'm on the right track to figuring this stuff out...lol. I figure the best way to learn is to try it, right?

BMR=1658

Daily Activity: you don't say above , but for sake of example, lets go with 1.3. (1.1=sedentary-desk duty, 1.2=light daily activity, 1.3=moderate daily activity-on the move all day, not sitting at a desk, 1.4=high physical activity-like manual labor)

1658 x's 1.3 = 2155 cals

2155 plus calories you burn that day during exercise, let's just say 200 cals=2355

To lose one pound would need negative 500 cals/day=1855/day or 12,985/week.

If you are keeping it below 12,985 calories for the week and you burn 200 cals a day w/exercise, you should see one pound weight loss/week in most cases.

Thoughts/corrections anyone?

I used the site

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

And since I exercise pretty intensly 3-5 days a week (usually HIIT and Weights) it says to multiply BMR by 1.55...

So i hope i'm doing it right!! Laughing

Hmmm... without doing calculations, your numbers sound reasonable. How long have you been at it (before the 3 week plateau)? Maybe if you have been doing the same thing for a while, you need to switch it up. If not, maybe you need to increase or decrease the calories, or zig zag. I'm still trying to figure out my numbers...

So I checked out that web site and I am wondering if I am suppose to eat 2155 and work out 4-5 times a week hard intensity and I am only trying to maintain, what would I eat back?

I have been doing this since the beginning of January, and to date I have only lost 14 pounds (most of it during the first few weeks). Not to say i'm not happy about the 14 pounds!

But its frustrating when I haven't lost weight for almost a month, when i have been working out intensly 3-4 times a week and counting my calories everyday...i just dont get why its so hard for me to lose weight when people can go without working out and eat what the want and still lose 1-2 pounds a week.......................??

I thought it was simply burn more calories then you eat..

Looks like you got it all right according to my calculator.  How often do you weigh yourself?  If it's only weekly, you may be missing some data and you may not notice a slight loss.

Are you sure about your intake?  Do you count everything? Are you weighing foods to make sure they are the right amount?  Is it possible you are undereating?

Have you measured your body fat?  It's possible (though there are skeptics) that you could be gaining muscle with your workout routine. How about hip/waist measurements?

"Almost a month"?  Could your cycle be competing with the scale?

My stats are similar to yours and 1600 is too high for me, to see the best results on the scale I eat 1300-1400 on non exercise days and 1500-1600 on work out days.

We are all different though.

Im not losing squat either. I admit I've had my bingey days but DANG. I'm 22, the weight oughta be fallin off with what I'm doin! I dont get it either. Who knows. I guess we just gotta be patient?? *sigh*

Every BMI calculator gives me a different number, so I just use what CC tells me. Otherwise I'll drive myself crazy with all those different numbers. But, from what I hear (I'm new to this myself, got 40 lbs to lose) this calorie-counting thing really does work. Also, it seems really easy: burn more calories than you take in, but it is waay harder to burn calories than to ingest them, as we all know.  We just have to stay motivated...good luck everyone!

Thanks for everyones help and opinions! This morning I weighed myself and i was down 1.5! Thank goooooooooooodness! Finding broke through the plateau. I don't know exactly what did it except that I have been making sure that i eat atleast 1600cal and drink 64oz or more of water everyday. Not to mention the working out.

I just hope it keeps going! I am not going to get my hopes up to high, but i'm still truckin! Everyone just needs to remember it takes time, and for me i'm impatient so it hard, but worth it. Smile
