Mayo Healthy and tasty alternatives

Quote  |  Reply

Today I was out of my "smart balance mayo".  As a substitute i used dannon activia vanilla yogurt mixed with my tuna.  Wow, it was really tasty.

What do you guys use as a healthy alternative in lieu of mayo?

In the past I have also used cottage cheese (with or without pineapple).

I have  squeezed some lemon juice with a splash of olive oil and dried garlic on tuna with some dill seasonings.  I'm not so much on the sweet taste but more on the salty.   It was really good.
on sandwhiches, laughing cow lite swiss wedges. they're about 35 calories.

for tuna, I just eat it with TONS of veggies - onion, pickles, tomato

I'll have to try the olive oil and lemon. I love that on leaf salads, too!
I love the laughing cow light cheese too!  I forgot about the pickles....I sometimes add the pickle juice to the tuna.  I know a ton of sodium but it is so good!  It makes it moist too.

DUDE!! I thought I was the ONLY one who did the pickle juice trick :)
CHA--SOOooo dang good :)
ALSO---the lite laughing cow cheese all mashed up into the tuna is FANTASTIC! It's soooo smooth and creamy and delish and oh man------CRAVING!
For tuna salad, I use the Smart Balance, too.  To try to keep it down to 1 tablespoon (I really like a very moist tuna so 2 or 3 tbsp is usually what I WANT to use), I use a little lemon juice, and some of the brine from jarred smoked chipotle peppers that are homemade about forty minutes from where I live (www.smokedpeppers.com or smokedpeppers@epix.net if you'd like to order some for yourself).  I chop an entire chipotle pepper up and put it in the tuna salad, too (I like it very spicy), along with celery, onion, and some grapes.  The grapes give it an extra wetness, and have a great flavour if you go for the black or red ones.  I haven't tried yoghurt instead of mayo yet, but I've been planning on it.  Smile
You gotta love the pickle juice!!!  I will have to mash up the laughing cow cheese in the tuna!!!  Haven't done that!! GENIOUS my friend.
Laughing cow cheese mixed with tuna is great, and I've also used reduced or fat free ranch dressing.  A good fat free balsalmic viniagrette works well too.  A good yogurt to try would be Fage 0% - very thick and creamy, and very similar to sour cream in taste, so adding spices makes a great tuna salad base.

1/4 of an avacodo mashed and spread on a low fat, low carb, tortilla-a few tablespoons of lemon pepper flavored tuna.

I do the pickle juice thing too.

i'm not as low-cal.  annie's naturals goddess dressing has lots of calories, but it resembles mayo in terms of deliciousness.

I use 30 calorie per tbsp Hummus (from Costco) or "Hungry Girl Guacamole" as a sandwich spread. I also like to use bbq sauce.

Anything with around 30 calories per tbsp is good to put in a low-calorie tortilla sandwich!

I like the reduced-fat mayo from hellman's. It's only 35 calories per tbsp and it tastes exactly the same! I can't tell the difference from the original!

well Ive turned from reg Hellman's to Kraft fat free mayo not the same taste but i can adapt plus to spice it up i like adding Tabasco or Tapatio or basically any things that's hot!!!

I still use mayo - the trader joe's brand - when I do tuna salad although I try to be sparing.  I like to liven it up by putting a bit of mustard in with it.

For everything else I just use mustard.
