McCain Camp: "It's disappointing ..."

McCain Campaign:
"It's extremely disappointing that an organization that purports to be an advocate for all women not only opposes, but feels compelled to go out of its way to criticize and make negative comments, about the only ticket in the presidential race with a woman on the ticket," Palin's spokeswoman Maria Comella said in an e-mail.

To them, disappointing.
To women, progress.
Palin video on sexism: LINK

So we should stop evaluating her by her credentials, qualifications and opinions and, as women / women groups, do so based on sharing her gender.
Sexist.

So a women's organization only purports to advocate women if they dont support a candidate based on her gender.
Time for an "Equality Of The Sexes For Beginners" course.

This woman has a chance of ended up as President. Why should we not question her credentials? People had no problem with everyone harassing Clinton... no one called it sexism with her.

The McCain camp and Fox News need to get over it. It's not sexism to question whether or not Palin is even qualified to be running for VP...

Edit: Just watched the video. Palin is a huge hypocrite. Someone shut her up.

this would be funny, except that all those stupid bloody anti-feminist WOMEN are going to see the feminist endorsement of Obama as yet another reason to vote for mccain/palin.

Sarah Palin and Republican hypocrisy This video is frikkin great!!!

What do you consider anti-feminist, pg?  Anyone who votes for McCain??

oh, come on, peaches.

hahahahahaaha

I'm not sure which organization it is, but I'd find it INCREDIBLY Ironic if it was NOW as a few rather vocal chapters of NOW FLAMED the hell out of Obama (and anyone who sided with him) because.. As far as I could tell.. he wasn't Hillary.

I wonder if those same chapters are supporting Palin. I think they should.

The left believes that anyone who believes in decreasing abortions can't be a feminist.  That is their only test.  As for experience, I agree that is a shortcoming...for Obama and Palin.  I say forget about the liberal women's organizations.  They are an arm of the democrats and they certainly don't represent my interests most of the time.

No, i'm serious pg.  What is anti-feminist to you?

Is it what mcshark said?  is it anyone who believes in decreasing abortions?  Is it something else?  Where do you draw the line?

You mentioned stupid anti-feminist women and I'm just curious what your definition of that is.

NOW is endorsing Obama.

:p

Of course they are. ;p

*has little respect for NOW, or at least those vocal chapters*

And in case anyone has no memory of what I'm talking about, a link.

I think I'm going to go send them a nastygram telling them they should vote McCain since they were so vehement against Obama earlier. That's your bed. You made it. Now go sleep in it.

Nice link, HK.  I didn't know who NOW supported.  I don't really follow them.

peaches, do i really have to spell this out?

  • yes, pro-lifers and proponents of limiting abortion are anti-feminist;
  • people who don't believe that women should have equal opportunities are anti-feminist;
  • people who blame the decline of society and the economy on women working outside the home are anti-feminist;
  • but mostly people who say "I'm not a feminist" are anti-feminist.

hk, don't you think it's reasonable for NOW (and anyone else) to re-evaluate the situation?  should everyone who supported clinton now go over to mccain?  that's dumb.  the options changed; clinton's no longer a choice.

or maybe all the clinton supporters should just stay home and not vote?

I honestly think the "Senator Kennedy BETRAYED US!" was dumb, and entirely irrational.

If they want a woman as president that badly, they'd vote McCain since Palin's at least one person away from being president.

Maybe I'm not being entirely fair, but the whole thing really shocked and annoyed me.

well if i were to catagorize an anti feminist i would figure it be anyone who stands in the way of a women's options..... feminism is so much more than abortions..... it the right to make a choice about your life, whether it be choosing to have a career of stay at home.... choosing to give birth or not..... choosing to prevent pregnancy or not.... choosing to major in education or political science..... it incompasses so much....... the moment your views inhibit MY right to make a choice, that is when i consider you anti-feminist......

the problem with politics is it's a race..... and thus never mind the fact that whether, left, right, liberal, conservative, democrat or republican..... ultimatly we all wont the same thing...... ecconomic comfort and wealth for our country.... healthy people and a healthy environment..... we would all agree that right now rich, poor or mid class everyone is suffering and struggling..... we all want it fixed...... the truth is woman or man if your in the political areana you better be ready to explain yourself...... Palin nor Obama have the right to feel away because people question their experience and ability...... i questioned both and i am a black woman...... now i lean on the side of Obama because that is my choice!!!

There may be some who feel that way on the extreme side, but otherwise it is very much untrue.  I find it "disappointing" that the conservatives are trying to march under a psuedo-feminist banner hoping to whitewash their history on women's issues.  Sarah Palin is quite the effective zamboni.

What is manifestly anti-feminist is to suggest that a person running for the second highest office in the country is immune from criticism just because of her gender.

Yes, pg.  You really do need to spell it out.  Especially when there are a LOT of people who differ in the opinion of what exactly an anti-feminist is.  Every website I've seen gives different opinions and definitions.  I don't think it was a stupid question to ask of you.

I guess because I'm not a feminist according to the most staunch definition, you would call me anti-feminist....so be it.  Although being a "stupid bloody anti-feminist woman" doesn't make me want to vote for McCain just because some feminists are doing it.

The left believes that anyone who believes in decreasing abortions can't be a feminist.  That is their only test.

Giving woman the choice to do what they want to their bodies is a big part of being a feminist but it's very ignorant to say that being pro-choice is the only thing that makes someone a feminist.

i agree that "Senator Kennedy betrayed us!" was way over the top.  but when they said that, they thought Clinton was going to win ;)

i mean, organizations like NOW are out to influence people.  you don't influence many people with subtlety and luke-warm statements, you know?
