I heard on the radio this morning that a private plane from Alaska landed in Ohio today ahead of John McCain's announcement of his VP choice.

Speculation abounds that he may have chosen Sarah Palin, first term governor of Alaska (kind of a female republican equivalent to Tim Kaine of VA AND she's best known for supporting drilling in ANWR.)

Boy wouldn't that mix things up!

Some people are still saying they think it will be Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

We don't have to wait long to find out, eh?

actually, some vegans respect a hunter far more than a person who buys meat at the grocery store

Really?  Well, maybe she has a chance with some of them, then!

She is an avid hunter.  From what it sounds like, she'd come out of that one okay.  She sounds like a tough cookie.  :)

I'm now curious to see how all of the spin will now begin from both camps!

I'm more curious about the VP debates now.  Smile

Like chicken, of course!  (I'm told)

Aligator has the texture of chicken, a little chewier, with a light seafood flavor. It's very lean. I loved it.

Edit to add: I was a hunter. I bagged my own 6 point buck my 2nd year out. Took a couple of does after that. Then my ex took my gun and all the hunting gear.

Chill, people - please - it's a three day weekend!  Cool

Anywho...

Anyone else find the timing of the announcement interesting?  How much of the spotlight is going to diverted?

I honestly thought he'd announce it at 9:45 on Thursday to divert the talking heads from Obama's speech.  However, it did take the attention away from the Democrats.  I wonder if he picked her to create a sensational story.

McCain thinks picking a woman is going to trick Hillary supporters into voting for him (effing PUMAS). But I looked at her stances - anti-choice, anti gay marriage, creationism in schools--she's still a rabid right psychobeast, I don't care what her gender is.

I hate how liberals claim to be open-minded and then bash conservatives for having different view points.

Is "psychobeast" the PC term for us these days?

I'm so far behind.

The democrats have pro-life people in their party.

There is a large segment of the republican party is that is pro-choice.

If we pretend otherwise and let this be a wedge, we will lose a chance to work together to prevent unplanned pregnancies.

Wouldn't it be great if there were no unplanned pregnancies and no unwanted children?

I don't agree with name-calling on either side.  Laurensking, thank you for speaking up.

I don't know - she is creating a lot of positive buzz with some conservatives (per a visit to Free Republic).  As already stated, anti-gay marriage, pro-creationism in schools, pro-gun, pro-life, pro-death penalty - she's a dream come true for some.  However, a lot recognize they've lost the "experience" campaign tactic, one that was working quite well for them.

It would be a mistake for the McCain camp to assume that just because the VP pick is a woman it wins over the die hard Hillary supporters.  They're not interchangeable people just because of their gender, and most Hillary supporters will probably recognize that.

Regardless of how much of a role model in her personal life some may think this woman is, my opinion is that Mccain picked her to appeal to women based soley on emotions. I feel offended.

I am still learning about her, but the more I read the more I am intrigued.

i am with you! she seems really smart and eager to get to work. what she doesn't know i am sure she will pick up very quickly. i read that when she was asked if she would take the job she said, "i don't know? what does a VP do exactly? i need to be busy" now that is my kind of girl!!!

Oh, really, that's why McCain picked her?  I'm sure McCain knows shes the anti-Hillary as much as you do.

And, for the uninformed among us, what makes her a "rabid right psychobeast"? Only because she has different views than you??

One that likes to keep busy, one that doesn't know the job of the VP, or one that thinks a VP doesn't keep themselves busy?

I honestly can't believe that McCain would put his personal victory above the stability and secruity of this country should he die.  He's just a tad older than dirt, if we end up with her - we are all in trouble regardless of party and views.

Even though I don't support McCain, I don't think it's fair to say he puts his personal victory above the country.  I do think PR played a lot into his decision, however.

I find it interesting that suddenly everyone's making guesses about how soon McCain is going to keel over just because of his VP pick.  Is his health really that suspect?

I hate how liberals are always characterized as bashers of differing view points. While I agree that calling names isn't helpful what you did is no better. You lumped all liberals together just like the other poster lumped conservatives together.
