I heard on the radio this morning that a private plane from Alaska landed in Ohio today ahead of John McCain's announcement of his VP choice.

Speculation abounds that he may have chosen Sarah Palin, first term governor of Alaska (kind of a female republican equivalent to Tim Kaine of VA AND she's best known for supporting drilling in ANWR.)

Boy wouldn't that mix things up!

Some people are still saying they think it will be Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

We don't have to wait long to find out, eh?

I wish I could ask a question of the candidates.  How about "How do you spell Potato?"

Given the recent interview with Couric, I think maybe asking their views on what qualities they think are important for a Supreme Court Justice would be good.

Geez, I never thought I would encounter a candidate that would make me nostalgic for Dan Quayle.

977: Did you see that McCain's camp has released a video of all Biden's gaffs in order to combat the perception that Palin is an idiot.

Well, if we're playing the "lowering the bar" game, then McCain's camp is doing the Dems a favor.

Otherwise, all they're saying is "yeah, well so are you" and the match up is a wash.

But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh -- it's got to be all about job creation too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that."

/unmitigated babble

Exactly, Santonacci. She doesn't have to do anything special. So long she doesn't say anything new that's at her previous low. I feel for Joe Biden because people have higher expectations of him. Sarah Palin could basically float whereas if Biden has to swim.

982: Good point, although maybe too subtle for most undecideds.

That's a problem, IMO.  Expectations are so low for her at this point, all she has to do is remember Biden's name and people can say "Palin exceeds expectations."  Whereas if Biden doesn't hit it out of the park, he did "less than expected."

I don't think this debate will be what I had originally expected... Biden "wiping the floors with her". The format of this debate is much easier than an interview... this is no tough debate for either of them IMO.... They already know the answers they plan to give to the obvious questions that they will be asked. She will be cute and endearing and the sheep will loveee her. Only those who actually listen to her answers and get past the fluff BS... will realize she is full of crap and let's pray that people wake the hell up.

I find it interesting that anyone is undecided at this point to me. I hope that this debate swings most the undecided votes one way or the other. Undecided people honestly need to give themselves a deadline imho. It's ludicrous to come down to the last hours before anchoring a firm choice. I hope people have a good idea of their standing after the debate.

I actually think the problem is that she's not full of anything. She's empty in my opinion. There is no substance of a VP whatsoever in her responses. There isn't even any fluff in all actuality. She gives nothing sandwiched with some cute antidotes.

#988.... agreed. But you see what I am saying.... McCain supporters will spin it like she did a fantastic job regardless... we know this.  Anyone who actually LISTENS will see past her well scripted empty answers.

They'll say she did fantastic either way. >_< True dat! Their polls would continue to decline though just like after the presidential debate regardless of their words. I've seen it mentioned but there is no repsonse to the fact. Republicans made a big deal about how well Mc.Cain did then too. The numbers Sarah Palin contributed through her nomination were great...at the beginning. It was like she gave Mc.Cain a fighting chance. However, she didn't/couldn't hold them long at all. When asked about it they say... nothing.

I think she was at her best when first introduced to the public as VP. The more people know of her the lower their expectations seem to fall.

on a less serious note, am I crazy or does Sarah Palin remind anyone else of the Mom from Bobby's World?

Of course they will.  I've actually come across some Palin supporters who insist she did "just fine" in the Couric interview.  Seriously.

Where are these people!? I want to smack the hell out of them seriously... WAIT... uhmm most of them are my neighbors Frown

I love politics.

Was this actually McCain's camp or some whacky You Tube-er?

Got the link for that?

It seems like there is a Mc.Cain sign everywhere you look. It infuriates me because Obama signs are destroyed. I have friends that have put them up four and five times now. Each time someone either takes a bat to them while they're gone or paints them. It was on the news in Edmond. I don't know if you heard about it but seriously. It's like people in Oklahoma are only allowed Mc.Cain signs. I put one out and it was ' missing ' four days later. It's insane. NOBODY touches the Mc.Cain signs though right next door. That's fine. ( This is in good neighborhoods too. )

I should calm myself... Seriously. Nobody wants to get me started on the signs. They didn't say on the news what was painted across them... but... I'm sure you can guess.

( I've seen a lot of Obama signs out in Nichols Hills. I think there would be a lot more in Edmond as well as other parts of Oklahoma if they weren't kidnapped or destroyed. )

P.S. I'm sorry but there are too many racist hicks. I don't even think they live in our neighborhoods. It's ridiculous. They best be careful or some crazy Oklahoman might shoot them off their lawn.

I know what they painted on the signs and it sickens me. Yep saw that crap on the news also. It makes me embarrassed to live here.

OR did you hear about the 4 "Christians" from the religious university in oregon.. yeah.

I would be amazed if Palin swung a single independent voter considering the handlers brought her on the ticket to lock down the SoCons and they've removed any shred of her own opinion (and in turn her "charm") from her dialogue. Honestly if they could have avoided it, I think they would have not done a single VP debate.

It would have been another story if they used Palin as the voice of the SoCons and allowed her to shoot from the hip. Meaning McCain plays the moderate hawk, while Palin is portrayed as tempering his left leaning tendencies by making sure that the SoCons' voice has a forum in the oval office. But instead they played it like McCain and Palin have to be on the same page, so McCain can't be himself and Palin has to be told what to say...

McCain is that ticket's only hope for gaining the independents and the more he hides behind some neo-con persona the more unlikely that hope becomes. Unfortunately for them, I think it's too late to drop the act now, he's made his bed.

#996, that's sick. That's one of the worst I've seen.

There's a treasure trove of them on FreeRepublic.com.  Don't venture there if you're easily riled up though - there's some pretty caustic stuff to be read.  However, when you get the right thread, it's downright hilarious, in a sad kind of way.

Hahaha!  Yes, she gee golly does!
