Ha, yeah, that's from Super Size Me. I gotta say, just the thought of McDonalds made me sick for months after seeing that movie. The fries are good but just the thought that they look exactly the same after weeks and weeks makes you wonder what the heck they do to those things. Kinda like twinkies...
That was gross!
mcdonald's definately gets a bad name...all fast food if takin in large amounts is considered a pathway to being obese..Now i would never have mcdonald's everyday..HELL NO but i do have it occasionally..however i'd rather have taco bell..just my preference lol....it's not about eatin there it's about what u eat there....first of all..when i first got on this site...i got a filet o' fish w/ fries and thought okay that's now too bad..the filet o fish actually wasn't bad....but little did i know that fries were over 100cals...taht is jus too much for such a side dish...so i decided to get maybe a side salad with a sandwhich instead...or i ordered a kid's meal ..lol it's all in the size of what u get and jus avoid the fries for sure!!! If ur smart u won't order a Big mac and fries..it's just common sense....Again, ppl who blame mcdonald's makin them obese..or for how fattening their foods are ..it's stupid..there's always gonna be unhealthy food in this world and u gotta decide for urself ..how ur gonna approach ur own diet...don't hate on mcdonald's..besides it's a franchise neways..ppl shoulda known before super size me that it was a load of crap..before applebee's and friday's came up with their low carbs/ weight watcher's menus..they were jus as bad if not worse...and their non diet menus are still horrible..along with the rest of any chain or fast food restaurant...so i dun need to see a link to read about what i already know...don't mean to be rude..:)
When I was about 14, I accidentally left some Twinkies in my purse (wrapped, unopened) when I changed purses. I didn't discover them again for months - I can't remember how many, but it was at least three.
Still golden and Twinkie-shaped. I didn't see any mold. I'm sure they weren't any good (Twinkies only last between 3 and 4 weeks on the shelf, although they can be eaten a bit beyond that) but that they didn't decay into goo had me very surprised.

I don't know what everyone's so grossed about.
The fries.. that's weird. The rest...
Seriously, guys, if you think that's gross and moldy, try real food. Put it in an air-tight jar for 10 weeks and see what it looks like. It will all look bad.
But, wtf is with the fries?

Yeah, I was speaking from personal experience with the Twinkies thing too. One of my old roommates really loved them, she used to get them all the time. I'm not a huge fan myself, haven't eaten them since I was a kid and none of the rest of our roommates would buy them either. Anyway, about three months after we had moved into a place she decided to try to lose some weight. She cut out a lot of stuff and among them were her beloved Twinkies. Actually she dropped about 25 lbs, go her :)
Anyway, fast forward to 6 months later when we were doing some spring cleaning and emptying out all of our kitchen cabinets to wipe them down. We discovered an open box of Twinkies with three or four left in it pushed to the back of a cabinet. They had to be from before she stopped eating them since, as I said, none of the rest of us liked them. They still looked exactly like they did when they were first bought. Pretty gross really when you think about it.

twinkies are disgusting..i never understood the fascination..it's like the calling card of obesity..instead of banning mcdonald's..they should ban twinkies..i've never had one in my life except for maybe a bite when i was really young...thank god :)
I echo hkellick's amazement: What is with the fries? :-)
For me the gross part is how slowly processed food mold. One of my students did her Science Fair Project on French Fries. She compared fries from several fast food restaurants, frozen fries and homemade fries. As part of her written work she showed the ingredients in each of the fries. As a group we were grossed out by the ingredients and the length of time so many of them looked fresh.
I have to say thank you. I do believe I have eaten my last McDonald's french fry, & let's face it they are or were the best. I donh't think i'll be able to look at another & not wonder how long they have been sitting.
they havnt been sitting long at a mcdonalds..trust me..everyone ORDERS THEM!!
HKellick, it's not the mouldy food that grosses me out. It's the fact that the Big Mac didn't get mouldy for AGES when the normal handmade burger DID, and the fries... what the bejeebas!??
paro1486, I would never eat McDonald's because it's not just bad for you calorie and fat wise - they are an awful company - some chickens were rescued from a McDonald's battery farm (already bad enough, 12 chickens in a drawer?). Anyway, along with the other illnesses and stuff that they had (including being trapped in their own food dispenser...) they had 8 miscellaneous illnesses. EIGHT. Now if you still want that Maccy D's every now and then...
I avoid pretty much any chain fast food. If I want a burger, I'll frickin' make it myself!

Oh, I forgot, it's not about how long they've been sitting in the McDonald's, it's about the fact that it doesn't break down normally in your body.
Well, the fries weren't in an acid with a pH of 2, either. If they were, they might have broken down faster...
but still, that bacteria and mold can't eat them well does worry me a bit.

Just have to laugh at this post...because my grandmother is still alive & kickin at 90 years old. No health problems either. So the funny thing is...she loves McDonalds french fries. Been going there regularly forever just for the fries. Kinda makes me think she may have preserved herself. Haha.
Oh, just have to add one more thing. When I was 16, McDonalds was my first job. I remember sitting through the orientation film that we watched and they showed the food being made in the plant. The chicken mcnuggets were little bitty dried up things going down a conveyor belt, then a big machine injected each one with fat to plump it up to normal size. It grossed me out even back then...
this makes me sick... I was an avid McDonald's goer... I went daily.. sometimes twice. (hence how I became 318 lbs) Anyway... I havent had McDonalds in months now, and I feel great.. this post makes me not even miss it!
yeah, I haven't eaten there since I saw that movie. ew!
My theory on the fries is that the salt and the lack of air acted as a preservative. People used to pack meats in salt to keep them fresh longer before the advent of refrigeraters. I theorize if you were to do the same experiment with the fries exposed to more oxygen they would break down.
Maybe, but still gross... yuck. My co-worker eats there everyday, and i tell her everytime about how unhealthy it is.
Then she wonders how i lost 23 pounds and she cant loss anything. ugg.
