i live in an urban area. close to a mcdonalds that is open 24 hours. and i've got the late night munchies. this could be problematic.
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Foods forum
I certainly dont endorse McD's but there are lower calorie options if you really wanna go there. Check out their website for nutritional info! :)
go to bed. you can't eat if you're asleep!
Or if you really want mcdonalds have a grilled chicken sandwich without the bread, mayo and cheese (grilled chicken breast tomato and lettuce) with a large water to compensate for all the salt.
go to the movie store and rent "supersize me", that should kill your mcdonald's cravings.

If you stay strong now, you will find you won't even crave it or desire it after a while. It actually will become undesirable to you.
I went to McDonalds once since I began eating responsibly. Big mistake! Not only was the burger I had super gross, it also made me very sick. It turned my stomach in knots. Don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

I hear you. I took one bite of my son's cheeseburger and spit it out. I never tasted the grease before. Blech. But they do have a tasty grilled chicken salad.
I'll probably never stop eating at McDonalds, but I'm more careful not about what I eat. Plain hamburger and apple slices. Grilled chicken snack wrap with no sauce/cheese. That grilled chicken asian salad is excellent as well.
And yes, lots and lots of water.
It's easy to be self-righteous about avoiding McDonalds, but it's hard to completely cut it out of your diet if you've always eaten there (and especially if you have kids!). I prefer to make smarter choices and make it a treat to fit in, rather than avoid it completely.
I think I went to McD's once or twice in the last 3 years, but last Sept I decided to give up red meat and pork so now I see no reason to go there. If I'm going to splurge on something its going to be a much higher quality food than some ultra processed meat and cheese. I eat fast food once or twice a month and I will usually choose to satisfy a craving for Taco Bell (no beef though). I do dream of eating a burger again someday - used to love a nice quarter pounder w/ cheese. But I'm not sure when, if ever that will be. I'm afraid my body would completely reject it.
well, i ended up fending off my mcdonalds craving (i was too lazy to drive all the way over there - i guess sometimes it pays to be lazy!). i ended up eating two servings of baked tostitos instead. not the healthiest choice i could have made, but not the worst either. oh well, the damage is done. i ended up going over my calories by about 500 in total yesterday. i don't know why, i just couldn't stop eating. but at least i didn't eat mcdonalds!!
honestly, though, if i had gone, i wouldn't have gone for a "healthier" option. i was craving the grease and the salt. it wasn't just about eating at mcdonalds, it was about satisfying the craving. i wouldn't have completely overdone it - no full meal, no soda, probably not even any french fries. but i would have at least gotten some chicken nuggets. fortunately, the craving is gone - for now.

Um ya - I can't watch it, makes me crave McD's... I absolutely love that place haha. I know it's bad for you but the movie was exagerrated. If you make that kind of food yourself without going to McD's it's just as bad. Plus - there are worst fast food places. At leat McD's has a play place so kids can burn some of what they ate! Ok... I'm not getting into a fast food rant... I'm done...
i'm not going to lie, supersize me made me crave mcdonalds too. i'm glad i'm not the only one. that stuff is like salty, greasy, delicious crack. (and probably way cheaper than crack, although i'm not really up to date on the going rate for crack these days. haha).
In fact, I don't want my kids to eat that stuff. That stuff is what made ME fat. Why would I want to encourage my kids to take on the same behavior so they have the same struggles I had?
I'm not saying you can never eat anything good again. But seriously, if you stick to your guns and make it a discipline for even just a few months, you will find that the thought of the golden arches just disgusts you.

I watched it yesterday and I wanted a big mac and fries really badly as well. ahahaha.

No matter how long I stay away, I will always be a McD's addict!! I know it made me fat. It made me fat because it's sooo damn delicious. I have to stay away completely until I have a "treat" day, because I WILL get the Big and Tasty w/cheese, and I WILL get the fries. I cut my visits down from twice a week to once a month and I'm happy with that.
I'm glad we (in the UK) don't have huge portions that you appear to in the US. I watched "Supersize me" and was horrified. Not because it was showing the problems of eating junk food etc, which was an eye opener. But because I would be requesting the supersize version - everytime. Well at least the old me would.
McD's state that you can eat their food as part of a balanced diet (at least they do in the UK). I agree with them. The problem is the reason we all got fat was cos we didn't have a balanced diet. All these fast food places touting cheap food that the tongue appeared to love. No more.
I must admit I've been to the place recently. But now I only order a meal with an additional burger and my wife and I share that. I don't know about the states but MacDonalds in the UK now publish nutritional info on their food containers. This helps to shock the system and prevents me from munching too much.
There is also a nutritional info tool on their website that allows you to add items and get a breakdown. So if you are planning to munch, plug in the details first. This may deter you!
aftr watching supersize me, i'll never eat ANYTHING from mcdonalds again.
but i will admit - their chicken mcnuggets and mcflurries taste SO good. but as soon as the video said "chicken mcnuggets are made from chickens with overly large breasts that are skinned and grinded into a paste, injected with preservatives and then pressed into shapes.." i vowed to never eat them again.
ew man.
ok...I work right down from Mc D's....I'll admit that I go by there on the way home probably twice a week and get an ice cream cone! They are sooooo yummy. I have to eat it before I pickup my daughter, though!
