How do I measure the calories in ethnic meals prepared at home?
Asked by anonymous on Aug 05, 2008 in Eating Disorders

I make Middle Eastern meals at home from family recipes. I do not know how many calories make up each serving. How do I count calories without making a drastic change in the way I prepare ethnic meals for my Middle Eastern family? How do I count calories for these meals without exhausting myself?

Answer

You can create a recipe in the Foods section for the Middle Eastern dishes you prepare, and then save them for adding to your food log again and again. The Calorie Count database contains many ethnic ingredients, but if you can’t find an ingredient, you can substitute a similar food. If you have a problem, you can read the help topic by clicking on the question mark in the right corner of the page. Note that the food log will only accept the serving size of “one”, and so if your recipe serves four, the nutritional values will represent a quarter of the recipe. If you eat two servings, you’ll have to enter the recipe twice.
