How to measure salad?

Quote  |  Reply

When I am tracking my calories on here I never know how to log how much salad I have eaten.  It is usually in 1 cup servings.  How can I accurately log my calories from salads?

Absolute easiest way is to buy a scale and start weighing your food, that way you can never be wrong :-)

Saladstuff... leafy greens etc.... is usually so low in calories that you don't need to worry about accurately logging the portion.  2 cups of looseleaf lettuce (according to CC) is 8 calories.... 6 cups is 24 calories.... nothing in practical terms.   4oz cucumber... 20 calories.   A large tomato.... 30 cals.    It's more important to be accurate about the portion size of high-calorie foods where an ounce either way means a significant change in calories.

As mentioned a scale is your best bet. However, logging your calories is always a best guess, and weight will always trump volume for accuracy.

Kitchen Scale at your local Wal Mart or Target: $5.00

Knowledge and Peace of Mind: Priceless.
