Measured for Wedding Dress... :S
Ok, so I'm getting married in March and I am going up this weekend to get myself measured for my most amazingly, tear-jerking, beautiful wedding dress and I don't know if I need to wear any shaping gear to be measured in. I'm actually rather freaked out about this....if I wear the shape wear then I will be smaller, more like what I "hopefully" will be naturally in March, but should I take that chance?
I have no intention to gain weight these next 4 months, but should I still try to lose weight? I don't know because when I get my wedding dress in January will it be way too big to even have a great tailor snip it up? I mean, this dress is so beaded and everything so should I just stick to what I am now and not lose anything? If I do that I think I will not like it because I'm all chunky looking. I want to be slimmer but I just don't know how this will work with the wedding dress!! Ugh. Any suggestions? Please give me suggestions!!!
Would you be wearing the shaping stuff on the day of (assuming you still needed it)?
Remember a few things - it's easier to take a dress in then let it out, but re-beading can significantly increase the price of alterations. And wedding planning, even if you are completely zen, can be stressful. Stress and weight loss don't always go hand in hand. So be realistic about your weight loss goals.
I just got married in June, and I bought my dress in March - so it was a few months before the big day!
I continued counting calories and working out, and I definitely lost a few pounds, but it wasn't such a significant weight loss that my dress looked funny on me. It actually made the dress more comfortable!
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd continue doing what you're doing, and reassess the situation about a month before so that if your dress is big enough to where it looks weird, then you have time to get alterations! But you'll feel so much better on the day of your wedding and honeymoon if you continue to work on your weight loss goals :)
Amethystgirl - I will be wearing the shaping stuff under it if the dress does not look good without it. See, I have a bigger chest than is comfortable not wearing a bra or anything...in fact I've never not worn a bra in my life with any outfit. There is no way it would work, but sometimes the dresses inside have a bra in them that might work. I am unsure with this dress as I saw it online and have not actually been able to see one in person. But I think I will probably wear it, as long as the back does not show...the dress does a nice dip in the back. http://www.shopofbrides.com/WeddingDresses055 9_8779.htm
that's the dress...so you can see it at least.
samanta81 - thanks for the advice. I will continue on then. A good thing for me though, my honeymoon will not be until a month after the wedding so I can lose even more after the event! haha. I will continue on then with my goals. :D
That is a beautiful dress. I sew a lot. That dress will be easy to alter, even with the beading. Continue on with your goals and have a fitting several weeks before the wedding so alterations can be made.

Awesome! Thank you for putting my heart back to the normal speed. I'm stressing over nothing it seems.
i just wanted to say, beautiful dress! and now i'll be spending the rest of my afternoon daydreaming and looking at dresses :P
When I got my dress it was sized for my hips. Fit perfect there (had the bust area significantly altered) which are classic child bearing in size. I then bought the strapless undergarments bringing the dress with me to get those items, then I wore the undergarments for the fitting. If you are happy with your overal shape I would maintain your current size as last minute alterations could cause you ondo stress!
That is a gorgeous dress!
Your bra will likely be a long line bra that does do some shaping in your midsection. They usually recommend that you bring that bra to your fitting. Unless you are planning on losing a drastic amount of weight, I think that the alterations will be fine if you lose a little weight.
I know how you feel. My wedding is in January, and I had my first fitting in August (living out of the country makes things difficult). In any case, I had ordered it in April, when I was about 25 pounds heavier (I did tell them I was planning on losing weight, so they ordered a size that JUST fit me). When I took it to the seamstress, she said it was no problem. My dress is also very intricate with beading (http://www.allurebridals.com/index.php?id=3&a mp;product_id=207), so I know what you mean about being worried. The seamstress told me she wouldn't re-sew the dress (particularly the lace) back up until I go back in December for my last fitting right before the wedding. Seeing as how I have lost about 4 more pounds, this is a good thing. Just talk to a good seamstress!
(PS: I don't know how tall you are, so I don't know how much weight you can lose before it might make the dress look funny. I am tall (5'10"), so the basic shape of my body is still the same. Losing nearly 30 pounds for someone shorter might not be in the realm of possibility for a wedding dress.)
EDITED TO ADD: By the way, your dress is beautiful. I really like the back with straps! It's very pretty!
OP - that's a beautiful dress!
Kbella - LOOOOVE your dress! wow.
and yes, that's all i have to add.
There is no reason to stop losing weight over a wedding dress. I never understood why weddings have to be so complicated, you could just rent or buy a dress in that shape closer to the wedding date. Don't forget that becoming slim often makes women decrease in bra size.
If you are 200lbs (90 kgs) now it's possible to reach 170(77) by march, because the first pounds are the easiest to shed with diet and exercise, and there is no way 10 to 13kg are not going to show.

that is such a gorgeous dress!! I actually saw this dress at one point thinking that I would totally get it....haha! :)
Well, I have lost weight in the past and it really hasn't hampered my body shape too much, I just look like a smaller me. My breasts for some reason do not lose at all! I wish they did, but maybe it's a good thing. Right now the onlyh reason I do not look like I weigh as much as I do is because I have such HUGE melons! Anyway, I think I will go ahead and wear the shapewear under it because I just want to have the tummy in a bit because that is basically where I lose it (thank goodness). It goes there second after my face...it makes me look totally different losing 20lbs just because my face is not so cuddly looking. I do have a rather protruding stomach so I want to lose the weight so maybe I won't have to wear the shape thing under when it comes to the wedding and just wear a regular bra or something like that later. I suppose I won't really know what will work until I get my dress.
But thank you everyone for all of your advice! I really appreciate it, and it calms me down.

well, the reason I cannot rent this dres in my size in March is because it is too new and it is a special order kind of thing. I don't like complicated weddings either....I just have issues with my body and I don't want to look silly in my dress on my wedding day. :) Thanks for the advice, I would love to weigh 180 by March, considering I weigh right now at 211lbs. I can do it!
