Measuring/weighing bananas?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone! I've been a long time stalker of the forums, just recently decided to sign up and track my own cals using the software on here :o)

Quick question - how to you all measure your bananas? I'm debating whether to count it as small, medium & large based on the length... so how do you measure it? From tip to tip or lengthwise (adhering to the curve)?

Then I decided to weigh the banana instead...but would I weigh it with or without the skin?

Anyone, anyone?

The weight of the banana that you want to log is without the skin.  To do so, the easiest way people find out the weight of the banana itself is to weigh it with the skin, peel it and eat it, and then weigh the skin by itself, and subtract that weight from the previous weight.  Hope that helped!  And welcome to the forums! =]

I usually do it by the sliced by the cup option (it will indicate how many ounces this is according to CC) I then weigh my banana to check how close it is and then edit the cup amount (.5, .33, .75 etc.)

I second white sakura.  I always find that CC's estimates are apparently for some brand of banana (or grapefruit or peach or whatever) that I must not have access to, because they are way off.  Most bananas I get, even the ones that look quite large (it's all peel, I find...), are less than 100 grams, some around 85 or 90, but CC tells me a small one is 101.  o_O  So, yes: Weigh the banana in skin, and then weigh the skin and subtract.  Or weigh the edible part by itself in a bowl (remember to figure out the weight of the bowl!).  I love the Escali Primo scale for this.  Don't know how I ever lived without the taring feature...

And welcome!Laughing
