Measuring/weighing food
Warning: SERIOUSLY STUPID QUESTION:
Okay, so I weigh and measure all food, but my food scale does not weigh in grams. If a serving shows grams and also shows a measurement (ie: tbsp, cup...) I use the cup or spoon.
My question is:
If I'm having my single-serving of ice cream (1/2cup), is it cheating if I squeeze the ice cream I scoop out of the tub as far into the measuring cup as possible to add more or is that how we measure food?
I told you it was stupid :)
my ice cream does not go over the edge of the measuring cup, but you damn right that i squish as much below that line as i can put there!
although I did just find my scale so I'm going to start weighing. Then I'll put that into the cup and see how bad the damage is. hehe
There was video on this very thing on YouTube that someone posted here.
Yep-it may not be cheating but you are probably getting more than a 1/2 cup.
I am famous for this. Especially with Peanut Butter
LOL!!
I do absolutely the same thing!!! Though I do think weighing the ice cream would be more accurate. But hey...worse comes to worse you'll get a few tablespoons more in, certainly not more than that. The damage can't amount to much.
I honestly couldn't deal with the frustration of trying to measure ice cream with measuring cups. I weigh the whole tub (400 g for 500 mL, or 2 cups, for my brand) then measure by weight (1/2 cup = 100 g; 1/4 cup = 50 g). SO much easier!
You could do the same thing measuring in ounces. I suspect 1/2 cup would be about 3 to 4 ounces, depending on the brand.
I've never really been bothered by the measuring cup. If I'm eating alone, I just eat right out of it. Badda-boom, badda-bang, piece of cake.
I'll have to look up converting grams to oz and try your method to compare...my unit conversion math is terrifying!
You could always use a gram to ounce converter if you want to be really exact.
I use one like this: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/gram_calc.htm
But you can probably get away with what you're doing now ;-)
