mechanical eating-once again..

Quote  |  Reply

basically you need to eat, doesnt matter if youre not hungry, think youre full, think you had too much, ate a lot the previously day, no one else is eating, dont like it...

youre underweight, youre unhealthy, youre destroying your mind+body--

mechanical eating involves following a schedule of eating, regardless of how you are feeling, what you are thinking, or what you are doing.this means eating breakfast shortly after getting up in the morning, lunch around noontime, and dinner in the early evening. you may schedule snacks, if you prefer to have smaller meals and to eat more frequently. snacks should be eaten mid-morning, mid,-afternoon, and before bedtime. after your body adapts to this amount of food you might find that you become hungry for the next snack or meal.once your healthy-weight is restored you can go back to normalized eating and listening to your hunger signals as they should be more in tune.

Agru:

I think that happens to me. i had¿ve my breakfast, then at mid morning i eat cookies, fruit yogurt or whatever i want haha. then about 2.00 pm i have lunch, and at mid-noon i'm supposed to eat something like fruit, bread(if i didnt at the midmorning snack) but. almost all the time i feel soooo full from my lunch, even  now that i eat a little less from i used to ( thts because i change my nutricionist).

So, you think i should just for get that i'm not hungry and think that i need to eat?? because i've tried and its hard cause then i had stomachache :Z

MSS-hi hun!

how many calories are you eating + are you meeting your goal?  often ppl recovering from an ED have messed up hunger/satiety cues after starving themselves and learning to ignore these cues.  if youre not hungry and 2-3 hrs have passed, then yes, its time to eat, especially if youre not meeting you cal goal.  youll also feel more energized throughout the day eating every few hours rather than stuffing yourself at night.  so yes, eat every few hours whether or not youre hungry, you need to retrain your body and rt now need to foolow a plan of eating every few hrs, no matter what.

Thanks (: . Now i'm eating 1800 cals per day ._. some people says it's too law haha  my goal right now is at least be on 108 lbs ( 49 kg.)haha.. now it seems so far but i'll keep trying , eating 3 hoursafter my principal meals  and doing my best so i can kick ed's assss  :D

Thanks sooooooooo much Agruskin :D  mwah!!

MSS-hi! 108? how tall are you?  1800 is a great start but if youre a teen then thats like maintenance/weight loss eating, think about what youll maintain on in the future? most adult women maintain on about 2000 and if youre gaining on less, well, maintenance may be pretty tough.

why not eat more now so that you can set yourself up for a higher mainteneace level and an easier+more enjoyable future.

2500 is often seen as the minimus for weight gain btw.

increase each meal, eat 6 times a dy-you can do it!

well. everytime someone tell me my height haha it changeee i'm 1.58 mts i don't know on feet and ichs. haha i'm 18( am i an adult woman? aww i'm olddd haha !) i try to reach the 1800 calories , and sometimes i eat more than that. for example today i'm having a yummy combo at my junkylicious food rest. :D french fries and hamburguer :D yaam cause now i don't care if it have fat or whatever. at least once a week its good :D haha

but anyways i'll try to eat more (: maybe then i'll see more results:D yay. actually. on nov. 3rd i got to see my nutricionist. so i'll ask her too

thanks 1000000000000000 agruskin :D now you're the peanut of my peanut butter (:

Mssmdnss: Be wary with your nutritionist, I know a couple of regular posters in this forum have spoken with theirs and been told "oh, stay at 2000~" when the person has been eating more than this already and not gaining or gaining reeeaally slowly. I'd try getting to 2500 anyway, though do ask their opinion. :]

Haha, yay for junky treats. You're not an adult at 18 - I'm 18! - in growing terms; we still grow until 21 or so. Also worth remembering that online calculators won't really apply to gainers. Just shoot for 2500 at least!

to echo what LALA said, i paid so much $ to see a nut who told me to stay at 2000, i want to maintain on something like that, not gain+then reduce to maintain.  so on my own i went to 3000, im not gaining 1000 lbs a day.

if youre hungry, then deff eat, no upper limit, the goal is to gain weight.  i eat loads of PB daily, have what you want, treats are OK to have whenever youd like!!  fats are also very important for health.

Omg, true! well thanks a lot lala your opinion is always welcome :D.i'lldefinitely try to up my calories(: til i get my goal weight and if i go overweight wel.. at this point i think i'd robably know what to eat or the ''right' meals to be on a healthy weight. ( but.. actually. i don't think i'm gonna be overweight haha! all my family say that xD aww you can eat all you wanttt daaamn you hahaha). Again THANKS LALA

AGRUS:these are really good news to me, no more' worry about reaching my 1800 calories haha. 2000, 2500 whatever my body wants that day hahaLaughing

Thank you both

i also want to add regarding any fears of when you eventually need to maintain and stop gfaining-

well rt now you need to eat MORE so you can gain weight.  now that i am doing this i am no longer hungry, dont obsess over food thoughts, and am not as scared as i once was of having to reduce my food.  im eating more than i want now, reducing wont be bad.  now i eat mechanically for those extra calories.  i think ppl who are scared of maintaining are still hungry now while theyre trying to gain weight and therefore still have the fear.

I'm going to chime in and ditto what Agru said. My experience has been the same. Eating enough to gain is a pain! It makes sense when you think about it: in order to lose weight one must eat less than the body's needs, to gain one must eat more. I believe our bodies are designed to let us know how much to eat it's just we have so badly messed with those natural cues. Now that I'm eating more than maintenance I am never hungry nor do I have the constant food preoccupation that plagued me before. I used to worry I would grow accustomed to this volume of food and find it hard to reduce my intake upon achieving weight restoration. Now I look forward to eating according to my body's demands rather than what a weight gain diet dictates.

I just wanted to add this:

I was chatting to my doc earlier about my maintenance worries, and she reccommended to me that paul mckenna book "I can make you thin"  bear with me here, I'll explain.

She said not to do anything about it UNTIL maintenance, but essentially it teaches your body to respond to instinctual eating patterns, and it teaches intuitive eating, and its not a diet or anything and to ignore ANY weight loss parts, but the techniques it uses are really good, and that has assuaged my fears somewhat...don't know if that helps

just want to say thanks this post i think will help me climb out of the hole i put myself in after mexico! thanks theo, agru, lala and mss!! it does sound understandable :)

 yaaaaaay :D

anytime!  id love to try my best with anyone that truly WANTS to recover!

amen to that!

hmm, something that im sure seems obvious to everyone is that a person w/ an ED WANTS to recover, i dont think thats true, not all the time.

a person needs to be READY to recover and MAKE the needed changes in order to recover, otherwise, a person can talk the talk, but nothing will happen unless theyre willing to walk the walk!

bump

agru <33 you inspire me.
