Can a medium framed person ever get down to 110-120?

Quote  |  Reply

I have a medium frame (wrist is 6.5" according to all the measurement charts I looked at). I currently weigh 156 pounds and am 5'11". My goal is to get down to 110-120 by next March, preferably a 110. Would that be possible? (considering my body type is somewhat mesomorph)

I know I wouldn't ever be able to look as thin like the models but I'd like to at least look skinny.

Getting to your goal would make you beyond underweight, especially if you have a medium frame.

Why on earth would you want to? Regardless of your body frame, 110 lbs is WAY too small for someone who's 5'11". You would be seriously underweight.

On the other hand, your current weight- 156- puts you with a BMI of 21.8 . . . basically ideal. Why change anything?

I would say the lowest you could go would be 145 lbs. while still looking healthy. Anything lower would probably show your skeleton through your skin. 110 lbs. would look pretty nast.

Yup, like everyone else said - too small.  I'm 5'7, and the lowest I can be while still being in a healthy weight range is 130.  And since that's the bottome of the weight range, that would be for a small framed person.

You are pretty much smack dab in the middle of your healthy weight range, and since you're med framed, sounds to me like that's where you should be.

However, if you want to change the look of your body, that's another story.  If you have a high body fat %, you're going to look heavier then someone with your same weight and height with a lower body fat %.  So, if you just want to get rid of some fat and get a nice lean healthy look, you'll have to hit the gym and do some weight training.

Bear in mind though, if you're keeping the same weight and trying to build muscle, you're going to need to eat at maintenance.

My suggestion is to hide the scale and break out the measuring tape.  Start focusing on those numbers instead.

Hey, I am a petite girl myself, I am about 5'4 and weigh 106 lbs, my goal weight is 103 lbs. That is plenty skinny for me--I'm trying to imagine someone almost 8 inches taller than me wanting to weigh only 7 lbs more. Trust me girl, I have been as low as 95 lbs, I know what it looks like to be that thin...your bones will all be sticking out but you will never have 'that body' or 'that frame' that you want. When I was that thin I still had huge hips/love handles/stomach fat. The answer to looking good is clearly to pick a reasonable goal weight and to use fitness to get the body you want. Exercise and build muscle...it looks better than blobs of fat on bones. Reevaluate your goal weight, hon.

Not only would you look skinnier than the models, in some countries you wouldn't be allowed on the runways -- because you are trying to reach a BMI of under 16, which is underweight, unless you happen to be 14 or so.

Are you planning on becoming a model? I'm 5'7" ,130, and I want to get down to 120 minimum. I used to be that weight a while ago and I was skinny but, not sickly looking. At 110 I looked pretty bad and that only happened because I was sick and couldn't eat for two weeks. I always thought I had a medium frame also but, my wrist is 6"?

That would be way too thin for a person your height no matter your frame.  I am not even supposed to go below 119 and I am 6 inches shorter than you.  So could you....maybe.  Should you....I really don't think so.  Just my opinion though.

It is possible to get that skinny, certainly... but it will probably result in hosipitalization.  Being that thin will cause damage to your major organs, weaken your immunse system, heighten your risk for osteoporosis, thin your hair, cause tooth decay, create a sunken and palid complexion... the list goes on.

A healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9.  Currently, yours is 21.8- at 110, it would be 15.3, which is not good.  At all.  The lowest you should go is about 130-140 pounds.

One of my friends has a disease that makes it hard for her to gain any weight at all.  She's 5 foot 7 and 110, and skelatal.  It is not healthy.  It is not attractive.  It is frightening.

If you want to loose weight, certainly, that is fine.  Most people could stand to loose a few pounds, be a little slimmer, a little fitter.

Use the 'Expenditure' calculator in the tools section to find out how many calories you use daily.  To loose weight, eat between 500 to 200  less than that- but never below 1,200.

Eat healthier, more natral foods with less fat and sugars and more protien and viatmins.  Start doing some cardiac and toning excercises.

It is possible to look fabulous without being a model, or being underweight.  :)

5'11 @ 120, uh okay...

If you were my height maybe, but I'm only 5'1" medium framed and I only plan to go to 120.

Like the other girls mentioned, I wouldn't go lower than 130.

No way.  I'm 5'4", small-framed (wrist 5.7"), and 120 is low enough.  I actually plan on putting a couple pounds back on in the form of muscle.

supposedly the most desirable weight for a woman is 100lbs for the first 5 feet and then 5lbs per extra inch so at 5'11 155lbs would be perfect. Im sure you feel 'big' because you are tall, not because you are over weight. I developed a bit of a complex about being big when i was 5'7 at the age of 11, luckily now everyone else has caught up with me. Prehaps a few lbs under the ideal you could carry off but 110lbs would look disgusting, thats less than kate moss and shes 5'7

You're way too tall to have such a low goal weight. If you ever get down to 110 you're going to look like a stick-figure because you'll be stretched so thin!

I am medium-framed and weigh about 112...but I am 4'11.5", almost a whole foot shorter.

The original post reeks of troll.

Can you get there?  Yes.  Should you?  No.

I was under 100 pounds when I was 20-23 at 5'7".  At the time I didn't think I was too thin, but it royally screwed up my metabolism and now 15 years later, I'm still trying to get it straightened out.  I would think 140's are the absolute lowest you need to go.  My goal now is 150 and I'm 4" shorter than you are.  Any less than about 140 and I start to look sickly thin.

You and I are about the same build, height,  frame and weight. Last year I was down to 138 and I was getting comments that was looking too thin- but I think it was people just used to me being a bit thicker.  I thought I looked amazing (and I want to get down to that weight again). I still had curves, but my problem areas were hardly problems anymore; I was a size 4 (and 5'10")and working out a lot.  I felt AMAZING!

I can't imagine being 110lbs (even 120)...   I know I would look disgustingly thin... and I have a feeling you would too!!  You said you don't want to be supermodel thin, but 110lbs at our height is pretty much there... ick :P  If you're working out- there's no need for less than 130 lbs (and that's pushing it, if you ask me)- you'll be quite thin at that weight, trust me on this one :-)

I think it's funny that people don't realize that many of the models out there are around 140 pounds. I was listening to one pretty famous model talking about her weight once (I can't recall who it was) and she was saying that she really weighs a lot more than people would think because she's so tall. They are all thin for their height and if they are healthy looking models (not the super thin, scary looking ones) they are usually in the 130s to 140s. Of course they are 6ft. tall making that weight on the low end for them...

OP... you do realize that you are talking about being skinner than professional models? They are plenty skinny already and you'd be doing yourself such serious harm, it's not worth considering. 110 weight would look good on an petite, short girl, not someone as tall as you. Skin and bones are NOT sexy!

Yes, I actually thought models weighed very little but after looking at my favorite models' stats, they weigh from 125-130. But I just feel so big and I just want to look thin for once in my life. My sisters are thinner and I just feel like I'm the only one in the family like this.

Right now, at your weight and your height and your frame, you are exactly where you should be.

I know it's hard not to compare yourself to your siblings. It's like there's a natural feeling of competition, and I am totally there. I get it.  But focus on something you do that makes you special or different or unique, and think about your talents that they don't have, and all the things you have going for you. Beauty/appearances fade over time, but an attractive personality and a kind heart last forever. Those are the things that people remember. And those are the things you should focus on.
