Melamine in US infant formula.

I thought about putting this in The Lounge, but I figure you guys would find it most interesting.

Remember that chemical, melamine, in pet food that killed all those pets.  The same chemical that killed the babies in China.

The FDA found melamine in infant formula in the US.

Back in October the FDA had this to say: "FDA is currently unable to establish any level of melamine and melamine-related compounds in infant formula that does not raise public health concerns."

Now they are singing a new tune: "The levels that we are detecting are extremely low.  They (parents) should not be changing the diet. If they've been feeding a particular product, they should continue to feed that product. That's in the best interest of the baby."

Thanks for posting this! I plan to breastfeed again with this baby but you never know when you have to supplement!

Heard on the news last night that a woman, here in Florida, took her 5 month old in to the hospital. The infant was found to be suffering from mal-nutrition because the woman had been watering down the formula to make it last longer.

Public service note to all you young mothers and mothers to be out there:

You can make your own formula, in a pinch, if you can't breast feed.

This melamine crap just makes me sick! 

Breastfeeding is best.  A must to say the least! 

If you have to change the brand due to this melamine, CHANGE IT.

Then when your baby is off of the formula, make your own baby food by boiling all ingredients and then pureeing it (i.e. carrots, potatoes, spinach, chicken, peas, etc, etc).

And if you do make your own baby food, make sure you store it in glass containers.  My doctor said to avoid plastic, especially if you microwave the food or put hot food in it.
