I am 39 weeks next Monday and am hoping to ask my doctor to strip my membranes. My husband is in the Military and is leaving soon so I want him to spend at least 3 weeks with his daughter before he deploys but I do not want to be induced.
Has anyone had this done? Did it work?
Had it done with my last. But only b/c I was 3 cm's and 80% effaced and not in labour. My dr. said she wouldnt have done it if I wasnt already on my way to labour
It worked like a charm!!!!!!!
I had one done because I, too, was dilated and effaced on my due date. I had a baby in my arms five days later. I don't know if the membrane sweep helped things along or not.

dont think it takes that long for it to work. I had my sweep done at 10:30 am. Baby at 5:54pm same day!!!
I heard it usually takes 24 to 72 hours depending on how ready your baby is. But it also depends on if the doctor does it right. I really hope she comes asap!
I had it done with my last. I had painful contractions all night, but then nothing. I didn't give birth for another week and a half.
I had it done because I was 3cm and 80% effaced and 38 weeks. Then I went walking for three hours because the doctor said it would help the baby come. He had told me there was an 80% chance I'd go into labor that day or the next day. My daughter was born 24 hours after the dr. visit. I will say however, that since I had an epidural, stripping the membranes was the most painful part of the whole giving birth process. Just as a fair warning, my doctor "forgot" to warn me that it would hurt, and then after the fact he was like "Oh, yeah, sorry, if you are going to have an epidural, that was probably the worst pain you'll feel from this whole labor thing."
Even though it hurt, I'd do it again not to be pregnant longer!
I had it done at 39 weeks. baby came a day and 1/2 later. It didn't hurt at all for me. The doctor was done when I asked when do we start...she did it when she was checking for dialation. I was 3cm 80% effaced for two weeks.
You mentioned that you were positive for Group B Strep. My doctor wouldn't strip my membranes because of that. I'm not sure why but you might want to ask your doc.
I had it done twice, for the same pregnancy! It was painful at the time and afterward. But I'd do it again if I thought it would help things along! I just don't think it worked for this particular pregnancy!
All mine did was cause me to lose my mucus plug and have some painful cramping. I ended up being induced the day before my due date, had her at just past midnight on my due date.
