24 members and growing!
Can I still join? No goal, just looking for some motivation, and the whole 'let's encourage one another as a group' bit really helps me. :-)
I SO want to join! I'm getting married on September 6, 2008 and this is just a perfect challenge for me. The labor day weekend is just right BEFORE my wedding day on the following weekend.
So COUNT ME IN!
Start weight: 135 lbs
Goal weight: 115-120 lbs
We have 3 weeks until the end of the school year. I travel some during the summer, so my check ins might be a little sporadic (especially end of June - mid-July), but I need some accountability.
I would like to lose at least 20lbs this summer. I have been working out and watching my food the best I can since March. But, I am a working mom and don't always have the time to do what I need to do for me. I am hoping this summer I will have some more time to focus on my health.
Can I join too? I want to loose 10-15 pounds during this challenge. I have done some challenges in the past and I feel they really help me stay on track so I hope it isn't too late to join!
I'm so excited about this challenge. I've never done this before. I'm so excited about seeing everyone losing the weight! YAY!
Oooh! I'd really like to join! May I? I'd like to lose between 15-20 pounds during this challenge. I teach 1st grade in Germany, although I was living in Atlanta before this (U.S. citizen.) I am 5'11 and I currently weigh 186 pounds. I have lost about 15 pounds since joining.
I am going back to the states to finally meet my father and I would really like to lose as much as possible before I meet him in mid July. Keeping my eating in check is also helping me manage my psycho emotions at the moment with all of my family drama.
Okay, so now that everyone knows my idiotic life, I hope I'm in.
Though I will be everywhere from Frankfurt to NYC to LA this summer, signing in and posting will be a number one priority.
Let's do this (that is, if I'm in! :P)
Good Luck To Everyone!!!
YAY! My plan is to stick to my 1600 calories a day limit, exercise 5 days a week, divided between weight training, cardio & yoga, and have one day a week off from the diet. That doesn't mean binging. It just means I don't have to count calories and stick to the 1600. It's my treat for my inner-child. Dieting is particularly hard on her. This last point is important for two reasons. 1) I need a break, emotionally, from the restrictions in order to keep my resolve. 2) My body needs a challenge. If I keep eating 1400-1600 calories a day for 3 months my body will adjust via homeostasis and will burn the calories more efficiently, causing me to need to lower the calories to keep losing at a good rate. This is something I have read about from numerous weight-trainers. The 1600 cals a day seems kinda high but I have pretty large frame and am very muscular. In reality, 1600 calories is not that much food. I am fighting being hungry. It's down from about 1800-2200. I have been athletic all my life, until my injury 6 months ago, which was the impetus for the weight gain. It was nothing serious, just a severe ankle sprain which kept me off my feet for about a month and away from my normal workout for 3 months. I was depressed and ate the wrong things on top of that and gained 15 pounds. So, if I don't lose at least 1 pound a week, I will be lowering the calories by 100 a day every 2 weeks. I don't want to go any lower than 1400 while lifting.
Anyone who doesn't know me may not know this. I just started on oral contraceptives 4 months ago. It was just after that I noticed my weight loss stopped. I haven't gained, but I haven't lost despite my efforts. So this is a real challenge for me. Anyone else challenged by this?
mspw - I just got off of BC about two months ago. I had hoped going off of it would help jump start my losing, since I know I gained the "average 10lbs" going on it. But alas, it has left me with major hormone shifts which doesn't help with the weight loss since I get down for about a week before TOM and eat everything in sight. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.
Your plan sounds really good. I wish you success in sticking with it.
My goal will be to survive the next three weeks of the school year and fit in as many workouts as possible without stressing or feeling guilty if I can't workout due to my schedule. Then, once the school year is over, I plan to work out at least 5 days a week. I have re-stocked with all sorts of healthy foods and am going to behave myself (no fast food). I did buy some light chocolate icecream (100 cal /serving) and I am going to spoil myself at the end of the day with a serving, if and only IF I get in a solid workout and can fit it within my 1500 calories.
Since Memorial Day is tomorrow, I will just post today:
Starting weight for challenge: 220
Labor Day weight: 198
I want to break the 200 hundred mark on this challenge.
I'd love to get in and join. I'm new to the site and trying to lose weight this summer so a group would be perfect. I don't have a goal weight for Labor day, but looking for motivation to stick with the effort. Hope it not too late to join. I can post my weight tomorrow.
Ok, never done a challenge before, can I join?
SW - 1/6/08 - 237
CW - 5/25/08 - 189.5
GW - 150
Okay, count me in. I'm not a teacher, but a teacher's daughter....so i understand about the stress and pressures and timelines. The summer is really the only "you" time that you have. And besides my friend Love knows i love to "suck it up" and rise to the challenge. Together we can all do this!!
Sandy
Sign me up too. I would really like to reach my goal over the summer. I am trying a healthy detox for 21 days and hope I see some results. My health has been going down hill after finding out over the winter I have arthritis. My joints hurt a lot so exercise is very demanding on me to say the least, but it has made me determined not to get obese, because my joints can't take it.![]()
OK, we're up to 34 members.
Don't forget to post your challenge starting weight tomorrow!
This week I'm going to focus on all the reasons I want to lose weight--Lately I've been pretty unmotivated, so I need to remind myself of why I want to do this:
- I want more self confidence.
- I want to climb stairs without huffing and puffing.
- I want to bend to tie my shoes without huffing and puffing.
- I want to walk quickly to the other end of the building without turning red.
- I want to sit in a seat in coach without worrying about infringing on the seat next to me.
- I want to buy clothes in a "normal" store.
- I want to buy clothes that I love, not just clothes that fit.
- I want to fall asleep without paranoid brooding about heart disease and other (imaginary but likely) health problems.
- I want to be able to see my toes without bending forward.
- I want to be able to cross my legs comfortably when sitting under a table.
- I want to walk without the "swish swish" noise of my thighs rubbing together.
- I want to feel my rib bones and hip/pelvic bones -- I don't want to be able to see them in the mirror, just to feel them there without an inch or more of fat in the way.
- I want to get rid of the rolls of fat.
- I want to travel out of the country and NOT feel like the stereotype of a fat American.
- I want to go out on the town and not feel self-conscious about being "the fat lady"--I don't want to be anybody's "fat friend"
- I want to hike comfortably without holding my companions back
- I want to climb the stairs at Notre Dame this summer (w/o causing everyone, including myself, to fear I'm about to die from a heart attack)
- Someday I want to be comfortable wearing a swimsuit in public (but not a two-piece, yuck). Once the skin shrinks on my arms.
- I want to be around to watch my nieces and nephew grow up.
- I want to improve my arthritis.
- I want to wear rings without being irritated by my pudgy-looking hands.
Why are you all doing this? Can you add reasons?
