I'm late ! I was away at weekend.
SW - (yesterday) - 215
GW - 154
HT - 5'4"
Between now and 1st Sept I aim to lose 15-20lbs.
Good luck to all ...
Current weight 166.5
GW: 130
HT 5'3"
Sorry I am late! I was out of town! Starting weight (5/28/08) 151.
GW: 140! Whoohoo! We can do it!
My reasons for wanting to lose the weight can be summed up in two points: 1. To increase my self confidence 2. To have strength, energy, and endurance, especially for playing sports
I was out of town and so here I am I weighed on Sunday but didn't have time to post it. I was 178. Sorry I am late. Next week I will be on time.
I weigh in on Fridays so I will usually post then. So I went up this week way to start off a challenge but had graduations and birthdays to celebrate. I just couldn't resist the alcohol and bbq. Oh well, I am now 223.1
Good morning all. How has everyones week been going? Our next weigh-in is coming and I'm not looking forward to it. I've had a stupid head cold for the last week and things haven't gone well for me. My DD and I have started walking again but it's slow till I get my breathing back better. I know slow and steady wins the race. So what has everyone been doing in week one to stick with their plan? Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble with meals this week. Does anyone have any great recipes or tips they would like to share? I know I need all the help and support I can get. Thanks and good luck to all with the next weigh-in. May we all reach our goals of loosing weight and getting healthy. ![]()

Hi y'all! I've actually lost 2 pounds so far this week. But the reason is that I have started treating myself for candidiasis. I apparently have developed it since starting on the pill, and I suspect is the reason I have had such difficulty losing weight. Now that I am treating it, I have started to lose some weight. YAY! But, I must admit, my calories have fallen a bit lower since I cannot have the amount of carbs I was eating. I was hitting about 1600 cals a day, and it's still my limit, but since treatment began, I've only been getting about 1400. Granted, I am pretty weak and ill from the die-off symptoms, so I'm not working out except when I walk my dog in the eves. So I figure it all evens out in the end. Like yesterday, I ate a giant bowl of steamed cauliflower and brussels sprouts with XVOO that weighed a whopping 18 oz and it had less than 300 cals. I'm so bloated with the die-off I don't want to eat heavy foods.
Anybody else here ever deal with candidiasis?
I admit, I had a terrible time last weekend--holiday and all, so my Monday weigh-in was high. Then I dropped off midweek.
Since Thursday, like Ase_t, I have been in End-Of-School celebration mode. I have been eating out high sodium, too large quantities, and drinking. I seem to have almost NO self-control these days. I'm safe at home. But set food in front of me (on a buffet, for example) and I have no will-power. I have to find it again. I also have to find the motivation to get out there and exercise.
I think I'll eat OK at home, now that school's out. But I have to get motivated to move, and find some will-power when I'm not eating at home.
So I don't know what my Monday weigh-in will look like. Depends on how I do with the sodium, walking, and water tomorrow. But starting Monday I have to get a healthy summer routine going...
Well, it's Saturday and I'm not doing too well...I checked my weight mid-week and it actually went up! I guess all the stuff I ate over the holiday finally "settled"...I checked yesterday and I was back to my SW~at least it's back to where I was. I'm kinda settling on a wash this week
.
I'm taking a class this weekend (Sat/Sun) and next weekend (Sat/Sun)...it's hard because we go out for lunch. I'm trying to make good choices, but I don't know the calorie count of what I'm eating....this is a bit difficult!
Weekends are hardest for me...any tips?
luvtraveling - buffets are the worst! there's one at the farmer's market where i shop and it's really good food for very little money. one side is the hot bar, the other is the cold bar. i figure, if i keep it to the cold bar side and limit myslef to just one starchy or meat item in a modest amount and stay away from any white dressings i'm ok.
kdoab - some ideas for eating out healthfully are ordering green leafy things like salads as sides, or even better if they have a salad bar. if so, avoid the dairy dressings and cheeses. a good rule of thumb is non-starchy veggies. examples of starches are potatoes, carrots, yams and winter squashes. if you order meat, make sure it is grilled, broiled, braised or baked. avoid anything fried or breaded or battered. if you are doing chinese, avoid the dishes with sweet sauces, as they usually contain sugar. tofu and chicken dishes are ok. and don't eat those little fried wonton wrappers they have at the table. those are positively evil! also, cut back on the amount of rice you eat. if any, don't get the fried stuff, get the steamed stuff. avoid mexican altogether. if you must, fajitas without sour cream or cheese are ok. also, do without some sides like butter or margarine, sour cream and cheeses. my basic rule of thumb is lean proteins and non-starchy veggies steamed, raw, lightly sauteed. if i must have a carb, either have a whole grain and lessen the protein or just have a little fruit for dessert. oh, and drink water with a little lemon.
Thanks for the ideas~mspw! I'll keep those in mind, but it's still not easy!
Hey, anybody out there a "sabotager"... I sabotage my goals ALL OF THE TIME! Because I'm not obese, just a bit chubby
, there are times when I feel good about myself (I have two young children, I exercise at least 3-4 x/wk and I ONLY have about 9lbs to loose until I"m "comfortable"~13 to feel GREAT) I go along with my husband (who's thin) and indulge in what he's having (though, a smaller portion~but "bad" all the while). Then I feel guilty and get into the WTF attitude and give up for the rest of the night..even though I try to refocus on how this little "slip up" won't ruin me~I still overindulge winding up feeling worse! It's a constant feeling good/feeling chubby battle!
I'm CONSTANTLY sabotaging myself~did it again last night! I ate a healthy dinner, did pretty well all day, then "vultured" what was left of my daughter's pizza crusts-UGHHH!!!
I think I need counseling!![]()
hmmm. perhaps. using food to create an emotional response, other than pleasure from the taste/textures of the food itself, is an eating disorder. most ppl in the us have an ed. it's very common in our corporate-commercial culture for ppl to indulge in food with some emotional association. the question is, does it make you happy or unhappy? if what you are doing is making you unhappy and you cannot stop doing it, then yes, seeking a counselor who specializes in eds would be a good idea. i was bulimic for about a decade. i've been through the worst of it, though it appears, your issue is not as severe as mine was, i'd err on the side of caution if i were you lest it grow into something worse. counseling can only help you to know yourself better. remember, it's not a matter of how you look and comparing that to others, it's about how you feel on a day to day basis. if you are happy with your weight as is, then accept it and just be happy. if you are not, then commit yourself to doing the right thing, in a healthy manner. if you can't do it alone, it's ok. we all need help from time to time. it's why we live on a planet with so many other ppl! ![]()
something i do when i am tempted to eat inappropriately is to keep in mind that this is not merely a vanity issue to lose weight. it's a health issue. if i am not at my best i may not be able to be there for those who need me. i never want to be a burden on anyone. problems left unchecked only get worse with time. better to nip it in the bud than to wait until it takes monumental effort to change. also, another thing i try to do is to measure my serving, then wait 20 minutes after i finish it before i decide on whether or not to eat anything else. i always decide not to. it takes time for the food to register with the brain. this is an esoteric thing i used to do years back and it worked for me, was to leave a small portion of food on my plate and offer it to the earth-goddess (nm it was going into the trash) in a loving way. i dunno if that helps, but it helped me.
meanwhile, keep us posted on your progress. sorry so long a post. i can be pretty gabby!![]()
Weighing in a day early - last week I was at 163.   ; &n bsp;
Today 161.4
Great job, Spedteach! That's awesome! I'm a bit nervous to step on the scale tomorrow~but seeing your loss has motivated me to make a change or two for next week!
I haven't been feeling well so I have been terribly lazy. I need to get off my butt and do a easy routine at the gym but I am so tired. I took a nap but that didn't seem to do much.
Congrats Spedteach ... lets hope we can all match up to that !
About no motivation to go to the gym. I heard a good bit of advice on a radio program a while back. No matter how tired or unmotivated you feel, just go to the gym and exercise for 10 minutes. On the treadmill, elliptical, it doesn't matter. Usually after those 10 minutes the endorphins and adrenaline are pumping and you want to keep going. But after 10 minutes if you still just want to go home, then go home.
I've been following that advice. Most days after work I'm just too tired from the day to go work out. But I tell myself that I can do 10 mintues. I'd say 95% of the time, once I'm there and into it, I want to keep going. But on those days that I'm just too tired, I don't feel quite as lame because at least I did try to work out. And when I get home I make the most of the night off. Even those 10 minutes make me want to eat healthy. Then I go to bed early to get a good night sleep so I'm ready to do more than 10 minutes the next day.
Thanks I'll try that tomorrow because I will definetly be tired because I have to be at work by 3 AM.
UGHHHH!!!! I have been keeping to my calories and exercising 3x week, but then over the weekend I blew it! How frustrating! For a 1.4 weight gain I should've been eating ice cream and such...well, now I'm back to the starting point...before this challenge I lost 4.4lbs. and over the past 3 weeks I've mananged to gain it all back!![]()
So, with that, I am more motivated than ever! The week is good for me~the weekend, BAD!
This week 6/2/08:
170.2![]()
