Memorial Day Virtual 5K/10K/Half-Marathon Race!

Quote  |  Reply

Calling all current and future runners and walkers!!  It's time to start the roll call for 6th CC Virtual Race!  This time we are doing  a 5k (3.1 miles) ,a 10k (6.2 miles), and a half marathon (13.1 miles) so you can choose the distance that works best for you.  Memorial Day weekend is May 24th-26th, so pull out your running shoes and start training up for your favorite distance.

There are beginner runner programs like CC's own Learn to Run thread if you are new and would like to work your way up to it.

There is no rule that you have to run the full distance!!  You can do run/walk intervals, or walk the entire distance, whichever you prefer!  The idea is just to get out on the 24th, 25th or 26th and go the distance, either on your own or by joining in a race in your hometown area.  Plot out a course in your local neighborhood using a site like runningmap.com or http://www.mapmyrun.com/, hit the treadmill, or check out Active.com to find local races.

Post here if you want to be added to the race roster, and be sure to let us know which distance you pick.  Check back often to see how everyone is doing, and of course let us know how it goes on race day!   And check out the Mission: Run Around the World thread to log your training miles and chat with other runners like you!

Happy running!!

Very, very sorry fellow racers, but I'm on the side-lines on this one due to an itb injury.

Sorry about that...

Hi, folks! I ran 7 miles in 65 minutes on Sunday morning. Extrapolating for 6.2 miles, that means I ran it in 57.60. That's about average for me these days.

Good job, racers! Skinny_kitty, hope you heal fast!

Oh yeah, also, for those of you who are also in the Run Around the World thread, don't forget to post your mileage over there, too!

Did my 10K in 56:15.  Bleeeh....had a terrible side stitch from mile 2-4;  it eased up a bit and came back for the last mile.

Did my 13.1 miles in an agonizingly slow 2 hours and 45 minutes.

My goal for this run was just to get the mileage done.  Been struggling with the longer distances (anything over 8 or 9 miles), so I'm just glad to have gotten it done.
I wasn't sure I was going to enter the walk this year, but I did 22 miles of mountain hiking Sunday.  Made it in 11 hours, handily beating last year's 14.5 hours ;)

It's not the mileage, it's the 7,800 feet of up as you cross each of the five separate peaks that makes it tough - I did run a couple miles downhill at one point; though given the hillside I was running down it's more like a controlled fall.

Ran on Memorial day.  The beach was packed.  I managed to run a 5k in 31 minutes.  I don't know how accurate that is as I was dodging people left and right....but I did it.

Hmmm, I may have forgotten about this, BUT I did run 5.6 miles in 60 mins on Saturday, so extrapolating a 5K is about 33:12? I think I did the math kind of right. Hope it still counts!

I did a 5k instead of a 10 k.  I ran my 5k at 26:06. Nate.

GREAT JOB everybody!  Kudos to all for getting out there and running on a holiday weekend!

Melkor: impressive!
