I was wondering if there are men out there who participate here at calorie-count. It doesn't mean I am ready to trade in my female cc buddies, just wanted to reach out to the men to let them know they have support here too. Ever notice, ladies, men sometimes have a hard time asking for help when it comes to their health/weight?
lol Well of course there are men... And I'm pretty confident we have no issues asking for help :-p
I'm here! Well, I guess you could consider me a very young man, but still a man at 22... and yes, we do have problems with eating and weight...
I was 235 pounds at 5'9" about a year ago, now I'm 150(ish) pounds and struggling to maintain while not developing some kind of binging ED... funny, when I was losing weight I had no problem avoiding cravings, now that I'm here it's extremely difficult...
I appreciate everyone support on the board and am so glad I joined a couple months back =)

Another man here too. I guess I refrain from discussions here due to most of them do not reflect my problems or there are already many replies to a topic. But I do read them when I see something that interests me. I do get lots of inspiration from reading your posts, although I have never started one. So far, I have lost about 35 lbs. since last November. For that I thank you all. Good luck to everyone.
Thanks for responding. What has everyone found to be the biggest help in losing weight? I have a pretty small frame so the least bit of gain is noticeable. I'm counting calories, something I never thought I would do because it sounded like too much trouble but turns out it's not, and I'm working out regularly. What is working for you guys?
Finding an exercise that you enjoy doing helps a lot... You're a lot less likely to exercise if you HATE it... Personally, I love running and swimming...
And acquiring tastes for healthier foods has been a godsend... I used to hate hate HATE tomatoes, salads, and just about any other garden veggie you can think of (I was a green bean and peas kinda guy)... I think convincing yourself that you need to eat healthy food can help you psychologically enjoy foods that you used to not like... Since I've turned all health conscious I've acquired tastes for:
Water (this was a biggie!!! I used to despise water), Tomatoes, Lettuce, Onions, Tofu, Non-Sugary Cereals (Fiber One = Love), Beans (Other than just Baked Beans), Jalapeno and Banana and Bell peppers, Cottage Cheese, etc etc

I'm actually eating less healthy foods than earlier weight loss attempts, but because I'm counting calories this time around, I'm steadily losing weight, and don't just give up after a while.
Another man checking in.
I have lost 24 lbs in 2 1/2 months. I started out at 191. I have about 8 lbs to go to reach my goal of 160. Once I get there I will decide if I need to go any further. I want to get rid of the rest of my gut.
What has really worked for me is a commitment between me and my wife to start eating a lot more healthy. We are also walking at least 10,000 steps a day and drinking 64 oz of water. Having it be a decision of the whole household is a big help. (My wife has lost 19 lbs)
We also are working toward competing in 5Ks power walking. Our first one is in two weeks. Our goal for this one is under an hour.

Another man, as if you couldn't have guessed by the name, I just joined. Have asked one question and posted a few replies. My goal is 190 to 195. According to most calculations that would put me just above my BMI range.
Let's see, I'm 44 and started excercising last year. I had lost about 15 lbs just riding a stationary bike but I then broke my foot in early November. Well I gained that 15 back plus 5! OUCH!!! Got out of my boot in late January and just could barely do anything because of my foot. I broke it in four places including displacing my fourth metatarsil. Anyways started riding the stationary bike in late March again. Going to see the doctor for another condition was the incentive to get me going full speed again.
I am now riding the bike for 350 calories, which is about 16.5 miles, Monday through Saturday along with push ups and crunches. Two weeks ago I started lifting 6 lb weights through a variety of excercies for three sets of 10 on MWF. That takes me about an hour. The last two Saturdays I have ridden the bike 30 and 40 miles respectively.I started at 230 and weighed in at 223 on Friday morning. I want to weigh 215 at my Mom's 70th birthday bash on June 15th. I would like to reach my target of 195 by thanksgiving. Good luck and best wishes to all of the other ladies and gentlemen trying to get their weight where they want it.

Thanks for the heads up on Fiber One. I love a bowl of cereal every now and then and knew I needed to get more fiber in my diet so I'll give it a try. I've been pushing the water too - I'm getting my 10 year old son to start drinking more on a regular basis. Sometimes, he will get a headache after playing outside in the heat and I've realized it could be slight dehydration. I use to hate water too.
I love swimming but don't get much of a chance. What flavorful things are you doing with Tofu?
I found a protein shake I like and mix frozen bananas and berries for a low cal shake. That helps curb my need for sweets too. I usually drink it for breakfast and lunch.

I started CC the day after I decided to do something about my weight ( March 5th). To date I've lost 28lbs. I have a long, long, way to go. I'm real A**L (Good) about counting and logging my calories.
Started walking with a Pedometer the day I started CC. Bought a digital scale on Ebay to weigh my food.
Maybe I'll post pics when I lose 50lbs.
Love the Forums and posts.

Anotehr one here, been here for a month and lost 18 Lbs (unfortantly I have hit my "dead spot", but Im reading the asdvise hear and hopeing). I found my biggest trick was eating Subway (the healthy stuff without all the extra sauces) and Kepping BUSY, no sitting on my butt after work. I found all those little projects that have been pilling up and did one every night. Now I have run out, so I bought a bike. Just started (man am I out of shape), but I did enjoy the ride (if not that tiny seat, I'm walking a bit stiff today) but with more rides I'm sure it will be better.

^ Also a guy.
Another ManCard holder here.
I started my weight loss program because I was tired of the social isolation being overweight in our society brings.
Over the past three years, I've lost 117 pounds, but have plateau'd out. 65 more pounds to go, somehow.
The best reccomendation I can make for losing weight is to WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!!! Calories in what you eat, exercise routine, etc. Keep a detailed journal. You will thank me later, I assure you.
The reason for this is so you know what works for you, what doesn't, and what you need to change.
I cannot stress enough the importance of this. It is too easy, over the long term, to forget the details. Take my case: I started my program by cutting back on calories, and exercising more (okay, exercising at all). I did not know how many calories I was eating...I just started eating fewer...or how many calories I was burning through exercise. Each month I would change the program: reduce intake a bit, and up the frequency or duration of my workouts (first walking, then biking {both stationary and street bikes}, them weight lifting.
The first year I lost a lot. The second year, I still lost, but about half as much as the first. This last year, only a few pounds.
It is clear what happened: at some point my caloric balance pushed me into the dreaded "Starvation Mode"; however, since I was not writing down the calories I was eating, and figuring out how much I was burning, I have no idea when that happened. I have no idea of when the "inflexion point" of too few calories and too much exercise occured. So, now I am in the painful process of trying to re-create the conditions that led to my initial success. So, write everything down, okay?

Another man checking in. I'm still at the point where my body is adjusting to this routine, so I have actually GAINED weight!!! Aaarrgghhh!! I'm trying to stay encouraged, and stick with the plan, but it does get somewhat discouraging. I'm actually having difficulty keeping my caloric deficit to the 500 range, with my high sedentary caloric burn and my exercise (5 days per week).
I'm going to hang in there though.
