Should men never marry?

Quote  |  Reply

The truth of just cynical fiction?

This video is frightening, that is all I have to say. The most terrifying thing about it is that from my conversations with divorced men, this video isn't that far from the truth.

How have things become like this? This doesn't seem to provide a very strong incentive for people to marry.

Heh, there's only so many penetrative options when it comes to gay porn.

Don't think about it too hard. You may go blind. Cool

But at least those hairy palms will get you in with the "furries"...

Despite your snide analogy of feminism as a "company", which I imagine you find very clever, the truth is that it is an ideology comprised of human beings, who are infallible. So you met some college students who thought they had all the answers, some women possibly coping with PTSD, and and some misandrists who had some introspection of their own to do, who all happened to share an interest in feminism. This is enough to disprove it's core tenets for everyone everywhere? Should we fly to Afghanistan and dismantle RAWA because some college kids here acted like a cult?

I've personally caught a false statistic about rape and sexual assault used by feminists a few years ago. I investigated their source, and it was unfounded. The thing is with putting false information out such as this is that it can create a mass fear response. I would suggest that anyone who gets their facts from feminist sources to stop it, or at least investigate the sources and find out where this information came from.

I also realize that a  basic defense mechanism of groups/movements such as these is to splinter into factions so the idea of the movement or group doesn't take responsibility for all the evils the factions commit. Example: Feminist Group A did this, not group B or C.

I even thought of these rebuttals myself when I was writing my last post. And trust me, I'm not making a generalization based from one college campus cult, Feminism itself is really weird, biased, and and a host of other things that are akin to hell.

Is the wage gap cased by gender discrimination fact? I was taught this in a Women's study course like it was fact, but it isn't. It's as much a fact as Creationism. This is the new wave's bag too, and they haven't even done enough research to know if it exists or not, but they're dead set on passing legislation. It's stuff like this that makes me question their agenda.

Afghanistan needs a whole beaucoup of human rights groups, yet I'm not sure about a group that is Feminist in nature or has ties to Feminism. haha...

BTW, those guys got their panties in a bunch over that Feministing channel because the owner of the channel blocked them. I admit the sunglasses dude would take it to the extreme, but there are others who were blocked that were not trolls, yet they had a difference in opinion. Dissent has been something I've found to be frowned upon amongst Feminists.

OMG!!! How obvious can Ol' Fortius make it! Clearly he's trying to cover up what a huge feminist he is! So cute.

Yup, Jessica. IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU THAT I AM OPPRESSED AND I GET PAID LESS THAN A STINKING PEDOPHILE CREEPY RAPING MAN!

Opps, SORRY, I forgot, you're female. Are you one of us?

I have to add that at the end because discussions like these make jblar sad.

Haha! I just saw this now! Awwww calcat, you're so sweet! I agree completely.

Fortius, are you asking if I'm a feminist? If so, that depends on your definition of a feminist.

LMAO Jessica needs the story book ending or else she can't sleep at night after she brushes her teeth and hops into her Jonas Brothers PJ's!

My definition of feminist is Jblarghp. I would advise you to check out her profile and educate yourself further on what Feminism is truly about!

They're tinkerbell pj's. humph!

You're crazy.

First off, on rape statistics-there are many differing statistics from differing sources. Even legal or government sources may only provide information on the number of rape arrests or convictions --it is impossible to get statistics on the number of reported rapes. However, the bottom line is that rape happens, even if it happened once it's something to be aware of and take precaution against. Feminists are often working to raise rape prevention awareness and also often encouraging women to learn to fight(except for a few hippie seperatist types who think usuing violence is patriarchal or whatever.). Meanwhile non-feminist sources often do things like circulate emails full of urban legends or prevention advice that is tantamount to saying "lock yourself in your room and never leave." So who is actually generating fear?

If you weren't using the college campus feminists to generalize the whole movement, why did you cite that example? Now you're just backpedaling. What about feminism itself--a group of human beings wishing to be treated as equals and not have their life possibilities restricted, is "weird and biased"

RAWA is an Afghanistani feminist organization. They have enough of a web presence that it should be simple to educate yourself about them, as much as you would just prefer to make assumptions

So the guy with the restraining order also got blocked from the Feministing channel? Hmmm, this sort of thing seems to happen a lot to him doesn't it? So what's the one common denominator in all those instances?

Lastly, jblargh's profile contains a few basic personal stats and absolutely nothing about any sort of ideological or political belief whatsover. Nothing wrong with that, but if it's your definition of feminism--well, at this point it's only one more addition to all your other words on the subject about just how clueless about it you actually are.

Maybe it was a dig at the "I also just realized I'm not very interesting." line. It's a bit hard to parse what his original intent was.

I've had my encounters with self-proclaimed feminists as well. One specifically sticks out in my mind:

When I lived in Vancouver, I worked in a building downtown that also housed a portion of Simon Fraser university. SFU, apparently, offers a well respected women's studies cirriculum.

As I was leaving work, I spotted through the glass a small woman with a large stack of books in her hands. I thought I'd be doing a favour by holding the door open for her.

Apparently, I was wrong. Turns out I was the embodiment of all things evil in the maculine gender, and the quantity and quality of my inherently demonic nature was such that she felt the need to bitterly lecture me about it for around 2 straight minutes... I think. I'll admit, I was caught by surprise. I didn't quite know how to process the situation and time sort of slowed down as I was standing there blinking at her.

Eventually, the time dialation ended, I came to my senses, shrugged, let the door close in her face and walked on. I don't recall if I suggested she run along and play hide and go f**k yourself... I probably did.

I think the term "feminist" is like any other group membership where you're required by society to belong lest you be a pariah. Most women, in my experience, who call themselves feminists basically more or less agree with a general set of principles and that's it. This woman was not one of those feminists. She was a militant misandrist operating under the wide umbrella of feminism who apparently believed that the only way for women to get ahead is to pull men down and leave them behind.

I'm all for equality, pay parity and all that whatnot. I don't believe that a job or any other role is gender based unless specifically geared to one or the other's physiology (good luck finding a male wet nurse, for instance)... but if you decide that you have to stand on my face to acheive your goals, you are high off your nut if you think I'm going to let it happen without a helluva fight.

after due consideration, i have concluded that fortius should not marry a woman

also, men who hate women should not marry a woman

whether these men wish to pursue relations with other men or not... I have no opinion on or objection to that, but I wish them well and happy in their non-marital, non-woman- pursuit

of course, but this thread is about whether men should marry

Good marriage is good for everybody. Bad marriage is good for no one.

That seems perfectly reasonable. Feminists also don't want their faces stood on, or they wouldn't have gotten into it in the first place.

Personally, I hold doors open for whoever is behind me, male or female, or whoever I see juggling a lot of stuff, be it books, groceries, laundry, what have you. I've offered my subway seat to a pregnant woman AND I've offered it to a man with a large backpack. As far as the overreacting girl at the university library, refer to my comment about college idealists awhile back. People who've just discovered a movement unfortunately tend to get a little crazy about it--the new feminist who's just dying to take on the "patriarchy", the new Wiccan who's just itching to be mistaken for a Satanist, the new Satanist who can't wait to square off someone who mistakenly believes they eat babies or whatever. Try holding a conversation with a newly out, college gay dude about anything that's not somehow related to that subject, skydiving for instance. It's virtually impossible.

But after a while they usually calm down. I'd be curious to see if that girl 10 years after the fact still believed all door-holding men were evil phallocentric agents of the oppressing patriarchy or if she's all "Yeah, I was jumping the gun a bit there, let's go smoke out."

Heh... now I have Afroman going through my head...

I was a regulation ballbuster femme, but then I got high...
I had a hate on for all the men, until I got high...
Now I'm cookin' for my boyfriend, and I know why... (why baby?)
Because I got high... because I got high... because I got hiiiigh...

False statistics and unscientific studies happen frequently in Feminism, look it up on Google. And before you discredit finding sources on Google, investigate the sources. The false statistic I caught was from a mass e-mail from the women's center of my University, a women's center that was populated with feminists. I thought it was just bad research, but the source came from some  feminist book and the source was false. Later I came to find out that false statistics and misinformation are common in Feminism which is SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some example have to be cited, some examples people can relate to, and college campus Feminist cults are something that most of us have had experience with. If one investigate further into Feminism outside college campuses, his opinion on Feminism will probably worsen unless he is one of those rare creatures called a male feminist.

The guy personally doesn't have a restraining order, he was talking about how women can misuse the system to get grounds for divorce.

RAWA makes me nervous, nervous like communism invading south Vietnam to LBJ, but life isn't perfect. Hopefully they can find Bin Laden while they're at it.

BTW, I've been researching divorce and all of its components such as child support, child custody, and alimony. I might just post another thread on the subject. The problems with statistics is one has to interpret them, which can become a problem, case and point is the pay wage gap and gender discrimination.

Yup, the Jblarghp thing was just a joke based on that commercial/video of celebritiy women saying this is what a feminist looks like. hehe....

Coffincritter is the epitome of the patriarch.

wait a minute. i dont like to be misinformed but i thought it would be more protein loading rather than carb loading. you obviously know something i dont. i'd much rather discuss that than rape. anyway back on topic, if you dont want to marry then dont.

I was bored after 2 minutes of that video.  That's how awesome his argument was.

If you marry the wrong person, you'll probably get divorced.  I feel like that's pretty common sense.  You marry a selfish tyrant, and the divorce will be bad.

If you're that freaked out about your money, the sign a prenup and have separate bank accounts, Cranky McTightFist.

I DID like the line that said something to the effect of "The women you marry is not the woman you'll be married to."  Okay, so don't get married after 6 months of casual dating.  I'm pretty sure once you've been dating with someone/living with them for 5 years, that making it legal isn't going to make them turn into Medusa/an evil sea-beast/completely different person.

Not to sound idealistic and dumb--but if you're with someone who's...really your best friend, your partner, your best sex ever...someone you really feel like you're SUPPOSED to be with...then things'll work themselves out.

Marriage is a risk.  Babies are a risk.  Law school is a risk.  Riding ponies is a risk.  Having sex with ANYONE is a risk.  Getting in your car in the morning is a risk.

Not getting married out of fear of a bad marriage either means that A) you're a wuss or B) you're not with the right person.  If you spend more time fearing marriage than thinking about the possibility of it--then you've probably not found someone to stay with for the rest of your life.

Women are jerks.  Men are jerks.  We're all jerks.  You find someone that you can stand and who can stand you back...and you actually feel happy--you've probably got a good thing.

that was one of the best posts that made gave me a giggle today while i scive off work. i even underlined my favourite parts.

i think sometimes we just over analyze the little things. im not saying that marriage should be taken lightly (heck, we waited 13 years) but sheesh, so some people get a bum wrap (he he) when it comes to marriage, others are happy.  life sucks, life is great, etc.
