Menstural Weight Gain
I am just wondering...
What time of the month is it that you are tend to weigh in a bit higher than normal? I haven't really noticed a difference in the past 3 months of weighing-in multiple (2-3) times a week at the nutritionists but I normally have extremely light periods.
Water retention seems to occur most often during the luteal phase which is roughly the two weeks or so prior to your period arriving. It can drag a day or two beyond as well.
But not all women experience the cluster of symptoms that are generally known as pre-menstrual syndrome: bloating, water retention, irritability, depression, difficulty concentrating, breast tenderness, food cravings, headaches, insomnia and a worsening of chronic conditions. The number of women affected by PMS is all over the map, but the American College of Ob/Gyn indicate that 85% of menstruating women have at least one of these symptoms during the luteal phase.
Pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder is when these symptoms are so severe as to warrant medical attention and this affects about only 3% of all menstruating women.
It sounds as though you are not prone to any weight changes brought about by PMS. As for extremely light periods, this depends on your age and general health history as to whether there is any underlying hormonal issues or whether it is just natural expression of your body and your age.
Everything you wanted to know about periods and so much more ;-)
Thanks for the info!
(Google wasn't helping, though I was probably just googling the wrong keywords or something)
As for the light bleeding, it's because of an underlying medical problem (PCOS) and seems to be the new normal for me since getting off the shot (prior was like a 2 hour spotting period twice a year...)
PCOS can make weight loss a real challenge. You are probably totally up to speed on all of that I'm sure.
There is thankfully a bit more out there now on how to work with diet goals within the framework of PCOS. The following article may be of some use to you?

And you're right -- google is only as good as the search words sometimes that gets very frustrating!

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
