Meters vs yards - woohoo!

Quote  |  Reply

So I'm still in the pool due to stress fractures, and I was feeling really frustrated at my speed. I'm not a fast swimmer by any means, but the last time I was swimming regularly, my time for 800 yards was a little under 16 minutes. Lately, I'd been having trouble just getting under 17:30.

I had this revelation the other day - my 800 time from a few years ago was in a yard pool, and I'm currently swimming in a different one. So I asked one of the gym employees yesterday - sure enough, it's a meter pool! So really, I'm no slower than I was (800 m ~ 875 yards), and maybe even getting a little faster. I also managed 4 consecutive negative splits yesterday, which I've never been able to do before!

Maybe this no running for a while isn't as bad as it seems.

Ive done the same thing when i was running track.  I was running a full mile at practice (1600).  but at the meets we run a 1500 and here i am thinking im doing great things because im shaving 1.5 minutes off of my practice times  anyway ya.....

This is why the metric system is superior.  Smile
