4000mg of sodium bad?
If so, I need to lay of the condiments. haha
I know you're suppose to keep your sodium intake down cause it causes problems and makes you retain water. But I drink A LOT of water as well.
Also can you intake more sodium if you drink a lot of water?
On a random note lol, a thing I really like is Oroweat sandwich thins. They're only a 100 calories per bun and they're great for burgers. I put alot of mustard, ketchup, relish, worschestire, etc on my burger that's why I asked about the sodium...
The recommended maximum for sodium is 2400mg a day and that's regardless of the amount of water you drink. Short-term, yes, you can keep the water-retention manageable if you increase your fluid intake. But long-term, the body becomes less and less effective at removing excess salt from the body... and no amount of extra fluid will offset that.
thanks. that helps alot
:)
Last night, my bf and I were shopping for camping supplies. He picked up these store-brand Cup-O-Soup cartons and I noticed they had 68% of the daily recommended amount of sodium each (~ 1700 mg)! I told him and he replied "well, I guess I better not eat TWO of them!" heh heh.
I sighed.
It depends. I've probably hit 4000mg of sodium (throughout the day) during a 4 hour training (bike) ride in 90 degree weather. I'm a salty sweater -you can literally see the salt on my skin after I sweat- and I basically just chugged down the gatorade! (and I ate a ton on top of that too... but it was a 4 hour ride!!!)
People who don't eat a lot of salt don't sweat a lot of salt... it's kind of a cyclical arrangement.
Jane- I know that because I eating excess salt = sweating excess salt. I eat extra salt BECAUSE I sweat out extra salt. I've played with the sodium intake a LOT, because if I DON'T have that gatorade (with sodium + electrolytes) , I cramp up, and if it's bad enough, get really dizzy and pass out.
I've eaten a container of umeboshi before. That day I think I had 20,000mg sodium. I *think* I'm still fine. ![]()
