Michael Phelps' breakfast

Quote  |  Reply

According to his autobiography...

3 Sandwiches of fried eggs, lettuce, tomato, cheese, fried onions, and mayo. One omelete, a bowl of grits, 3 slices of french toast with powdered sugar, and wash that down with 3 chocolate chip pancakes.

Pretty amazing, huh? He said he's supposed to eat between 8 and 10 thousand calories a day. Can you imagine having to eat that much?

I seem to recall that Lance Armstrong burned somewhere bw 6,000 and 8,000 calories a day during the tour de France and that the racers would actually end up 15-25 lbs lighter than when they started.

One would also think that all of that hard work would help keep the cholesterol down, in a similar fashion to those farmers of old who would eat 6 eggs every day for breakfast and then go out and use a team of horses to plow the back 40.

I remember hearing that Mary Lou Retton and Dorothy Hamill - small female Olympic athletes from the past ate 15,000 calories a day.  Then, when they ended their careers, they rapidly gained weight because they had difficulty retraining their eating to be less.

I'm grateful I'm not much of an athlete!  I have trouble enough with balancing calorie intake vs. burn living a reasonably sedate life!!

Michael Phelps Typical Day:

BREAKFAST:
- Three friend egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayo.
- A five egg omelette
- Bowl of grits
- Three slices of French toast with powdered sugar
- Three chocolate chip pancakes
- Two cups of Coffee

LUNCH:
- A pound of paster with tomato sauce
- Two large ham, cheese and mayo sandwiches on white bread
&nb sp;   - 1000 calories worth of energy drinks

DINNER:
- A pound of pasta with tomato sauce
- Six to Eight pizza slices
- 1000 calories worth of Energy Drinks
How does he have time to eat all of that?  According to the schedule they showed on tv he only has 15 minutes for breakfast before he goes to the pool.

Oh no -- he wouldn't be eating that before he swims -- only after.  Before he swims is probably a couple of bananas and a protein shake -- or something similar.  Otherwise it all would end up back in the pool (and not in a good way).

how boring would it be to only eat cheese, bread, pasta and energy drinks? On the news it said he eats twelve thousand calories a day - if i had to eat that much I would eat waaay more variety of things which taste a lot better! Almonds, cashews, chocolt raisins peanuts, trail mix, etc! And i'd have like, milkshakes instead of energy drinks! Oooh and ben and jerrys.....LOL

Good thing I don't need twelve thousand calories a day....just thinking of it makes you feel guilty!!

If SNL recommends the Michael Phelps diet, it MUST be good.  Did everyone see this?

Almost certainly fatal.  LOL.
