Microwave recipes - please?
Hi everyone. My stove/oven is temporarily broken. It's an electrical appliance, and I think the glitch is with the electrical system rather than with a part. In the meantime, I only have a crockpot, microwave, and a tiny toaster oven. The crockpot is out since it is a big one and for the next week I am cooking only for myself (and don't want to eat the same thing all week).
Does anyone have any good microwave recipes? I have looked at some websites, but many have recipes for the convection-type microwaves (mine is a regular) and the food is not particularly appealing or is more like an appetizer rather than a meal.
I would appreciate any help you could provide.
What kind of food do you like?
Hearty, comforting food - stews, soups, sauce based dishes :)
You can make anything in a microwave.

Maybe some of these? Sorry, there's not much selection out there.
Thank you, mars - somehow I didn't see that page even though I googled microwave cooking. I will look through the recipes :) and let you know if I made anything.
Edit: Had a chance to look through them - looks like I could make at least one of those recipes - especially the spaghetti in the microwave.
That's great. Glad I could help.
Couscous can be made in a microwave -- heat 1.5 parts water to near-boiling, then add 1 part couscous, cover, and let sit for about 5 minutes.
I'll mix in beans, frozen veggies, salsa, and cheese, and microwave it all together, for a tasty casserole.
Microwave scrambled eggs
beat 2 eggs with 1 tablespoon of milk and salt and pepper to taste. Spray a microwave safe dish with cooking spray and pour in the eggs. Cook uncovered on half power for 1 minute stirring with a fork every 10 to 15 seconds. It might take less than one minute. If the eggs are not as well done as you like, cover and let sit for a minute.
You can add omelet ingredients to the eggs too.
Mircowaves are fantastic, you can cook rice, steam vegetables, bake potatoes (although without crunchy skin), poach meat, even 1min microwave desserts!
Betty Crocker low-cal warm delights. 150 cal single-serving brownie cake gooey chocolate thing. And you make it in the microwave!
Also, I know I have cooked rice (regular rice, not weird bag stuff) in the microwave before, so you should try to look that up.
And hot milk + low fat cream cheese + grated parm cheese makes a great cream sauce to put on those noodles!
Microwaved Sweet Potato or Yam
Wash the potato and pierce with a fork or knife in several places to prevent bursting. Place on a plate, uncovered, and microwave for 5 minutes or use the Potato setting on your microwave it it has one. Test for doneness - it should be soft all the way through.
To serve, cut in half, sprinkle with a little salt an scoop it out. Delicious and so very good for you.
just heat up some quezadillas with low cal cheese ;)
Everyone, thanks for your replies :)
I googled and came up with a dozen or so sites for microwave cooking! Cooks.com, Pillsbury.com, Microwavecooking.com.............There's a ton!
