Just wondering, my diet scale is broken so  was wondering is 4 oz's  equal to a cup or a half a cup...I thought that I read somewhere that 4oz's is equal to a 1/2 cup... and that 8oz is equal to a cup...is that true.. just trying to find the correct measurements so I can carefully portion control...

A cup is 8 ounces:)

Yep, 4 oz equals 1/2 cup.

I always go to this site when I have a conversion question: http://www.onlineconversion.com/

thanks, that helps a lot..

No, you folks are all mistaken. 4 fluid (volume) oz is 1/2 cup, but you are talking about your scale, which measures ounces as a weight. Imagine 1/2 cup of lead. Does it weigh 4 ounces? Certainly not.

Since every food has a different density, you'll have to figure out on a case-by-case basis how many fluid ounces are in a serving.

Yeah, I suppose I should have mentioned that.  I assumed she was using it for picking cup portion sizes on CC which are volume.
