I might have mono, help?
I have all the symptoms of mono, and i'm going to the doctor this weekend for some tests.
anyone who has had mono in the past have any advice for me on what to do?
i've had it. for a quick recovery, you'll need to rest alot, drink alot of fluids, and not do any exercise other than going for walks. also, don't kiss anyone ;)
how long does it usually last?
I literally just got over mono. Well, this is week 5, and I feel pretty normal, maybe still a little more tired and hungry than usual. Everyone is different, but for me the acute stage only lasted for 2 weeks, and then once that ended I could eat normally and function somewhat like a normal person. Definitely take it easy for a few weeks, because it's pretty miserable otherwise. See if you can get some walking in after those first few weeks because it's important for your body to regain strength, but it's also important not to overdo it. If you do have mono, at least know that the worst is in the beginning. Oh, and no alcohol, because that stresses your liver.
My ex boyfriend got really bad mono right after we started dating (my bad...), and what he did was stay in bed, used a humidifier, and drank lots and lots of water. He says that applesauce helped his throat (he couldn't really chew or swallow, and it really hurt for him to breathe, and applesauce was the only thing he could really eat) Hopefully you don't have it as bad as he did. It took him about 2 weeks to get over the really bad part and about a month to fully recover (as in, not fatigued and weak and without an appetite).
But start resting right away or it will get really, really bad and painful (that's why my ex's was so bad, he waited a whole week to see the doctor and another to find out it was mono)
