I'm curious what clothing size i might be. I usually shop at American Egale and Abrocrombie , but im curious what the universal size would be.

Thanks for answering Laughing

Seriously severely underweight and suffering from health problems.  You would have a BMI of 16.8.  The absolute minimum safe BMI is 18.5 (for the very petite which, at 5'8, you are not).  Most people are recommended to have a BMI between 20 and 25.

At 5'8, you should not, under any circumstances, aim to weigh less than 125 pounds.

I'm not sure if you're saying you are already at 110, or you're aiming for it, but for 5'8', 110 is not a healthy weight.  125 is the minimum healthy weight for your height.  If you're already there, but you're still jiggly, that's called 'skinny fat' and exercise will help improve your muscle tone.

Yep.

Hi there, are those your goals? If so they are probably underweight. How old are you, how much do you weigh now, how much are you eating per day? We can help you lose weight healthfully if that's what you need to do but we cannot assist or motivate you to reach underweight goals. Tell us more about yourself and we can help.

I am not sure if you know since you are a new member, but Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management.

yeah i relieze 110 is under weight but i have to be at that weight for ice skating. I have to fit a certian sive and the weight was recommended .  Thanks for the concern or well the warnings but i was really just courious about clothing size.

Good to know.  If it's the size that's important, it'd probably be more helpful to post saying "who's 5'8 and size X; what do you weigh?".  Because I have a sneaking suspicion that whoever told you 110 wasn't taking into account your height.  They were probably used to shorter girls who would weigh less at the same size.  Someone who's 130 pounds and 5'8 will usually be much thinner than someone who's 130 pounds at 5'2.

There really isn't such a thing as a "universal size" - vanity sizing and just differences between different clothing makers means that between different brands, most people find they fit in wide variety of sizes. Two people might even wear the same size gap jeans, but when they try on a banana republic dress, they are completely different sizes.

For ice skating, do you have to be light so that you can be lifted? Or is it that you have to be a size 2, say, to fit the outfits or something? I'd be very worried about you trying to get to that low a low weight for your height - you need to be strong to skate, and in order to get to that weight, you'd either have to be naturally petite (and short) or most likely lose any fat and probably a lot of muscle to get down to that weight - which is not going to be healthy. Especially given how undereating can weaken your bones... yeah, not good.

It's a combination of both. I have to be light to lift especially since im so tall . Many of the guys are short and since im taller i have to be easier to lift then the rest? Geez it even sounds redicoulous to me. Maybe they are just bias against tall people. =/

Size 2 is ideal for a skater and im pretty sure i'd reach a size two before 110. Originally i thought i'd be a size 2 around 120?

In general, I think the sizes take into consideration your height, which is one of the reasons it's so hard to generalize about clothing sizes. A size 2 for a short person is not the same as size 2 for a tall person.

Some sports just aren't good for certain body types. Just like most basketball players tend to be tall (because their height helps them), maybe most skaters are short, because that allows them to do what's required for the sport. I believe that's true for gymnastics, too. I'm not sure about ballet - they always seem tall to me, but maybe it's cause they are always on their toes.

Good luck, but the reason people responded so strongly is that unless you are naturally that tiny, it's going to be very difficult and unhealthy to try to achieve that weight.

i understand completley why people would respond strongly . It's an odd question i suppose and calorie counter isnt trying to promote anorexia.

Yep... good luck, though, and maybe you can find a taller and stronger skating partner :) Or find a coach who has more reasonable expectations.

at 5'8" and 110, you won't be skating.  if you're lucky, you'll have the strength to loll.

um im 5'2 110 lbs and between a size 0-2 depending on the brand. so you definitely will not need to get to 110! id say 125ish youd be there with your height. no matter what they are telling you, dont let this ruin your body! youll regret it later, that is such an extremely low weight for someone at your height!

110 @ 5'8" is generally smaller than a size 2. at A&E and A&F its a size 0 or 00.
maybe a size 2 for bridesmaids dresses.

You are very tall for a pairs skater... which isn't a bad thing in itself, but please don't let ANYONE tell you that you should be the same weight as a girl who's a whole foot shorter than you. It's just not physically possible to be that thin and to be healthy. If your weight gets down that low I seriously doubt you'll be in any kind of physical shape for serious skating - you'll more likely be in a hospital bed or too weak to skate. Remember, the taller you are, the thinner you look, so the more you 'get' to weigh. You will be at your desired clothing size at a much higher bodyweight than somebody very short. Stay strong and stay healthy!

Especially since you are a skater you absolutely cannot go by a number on a scales. Ice skaters have enormous muscle and very little body fat so may weigh a lot (remember muscle weighs quite a bit more than fat and muscular people are often surprisingly "heavy" but look slim, slender and toned).

I want to know who told you to reach that goal, so I can box their ears. Please be careful.

By the way, you answer my questions:

How old are you, how much do you weigh now, how much are you eating per day?

im 17 , i currently weigh 129 and i'ver been at a 1200 cal diet

Hey - I just thought I'd let you know that I was a size 2 at 120 and I am 5'9".
