Does anyone else on here get really bad migraines quite often? I've been having problems with frequent headaches for the past 3-4 years, and I'm on medicine, but for the past 2 weeks I have had a headache every single day that no medicine will help. I was just curious if anyone knows anything food wise that could possibly help besides caffeine, or if there's a particular food you know that can cause headaches.

I do not get them, but they are hereditary..... I believe from the mothers side.

ever get  a CT- scan or MRI ...  they are diagnostic tools to see if there are any lesions on the brain causing the pain

When  first went to my neurologist, he had me make a food log. The only thing I could conclude was that my migraines had nothing to do with what I was eating haha.
We did figure out that they were brought on by stress & lack of sleep though.
He put me on some prescription stuff, which helped, but I'm still not completely free of them.
I've had CT Scans & all, & there isn't some magical cure for migraines, sadly.

if i'm dehydrated or eating too much sugar, i'm far more likely to get a migraine.  the less sugar i eat, the better off i am.

I've had headaches my whole life.

Foods defiantely give me headaches, although I'm not sure if they are classical migrane headaches. Anyway the point is that these things make my head hurt.

- particularly citrus (Although I've just realised I can tolerate limes quite okay, just the smell of mandarines or clementines causes a headache). Citrus is a pretty common trigger
- Chocolate (although I have heard theories that it isn't the chocolate causing the headache, but the body knowing something is wrong causing the craving for the chocolate)
- Food with msg can also be a problem.
- walking past subway, or even worse, LUSH.
- Any kind of perfume, except for vanilla type scents, including lavender which is supposed to help headaches!
- Vitamin C and other multivitamin tablets.
- petrol/gasoline smells (including exhaust fumes on hot days)
- drinking diet soda (but only past a certian point)

have you changed chairs, or been carry a heavy bag more?
dehydration or being hungry can sometimes cause them.

Anyway hope you are feeling better soon

yes I'm feeling much better now... I cut out Splenda and aspartame, just thinking maybe that would help, and it did! But now, I'm kinda sad because almost everything in my house is "lower sugar" which means it has Splenda in it =(

Yeah, artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame, I think) are the big triggers for me. Red wine and other alcohol too sometimes.

I have headaches when my blood pression goes a little lower than usual, so a single espresso coffee usually helps.

Ciao!

Did you, by any chance, get really sick before these started?

I've always had occasional migraines, but several years ago following a bad stint with walking pneumonia, I started getting them literally all the time. I went through all of the tests and everything and no one could figure out what was wrong.

Anyway, it turned out to be something that had to do with the walking pneumonia screwing up something and pills fixed it. (I don't remember exactly what it was; I was 13 at the time, but my fever got up to 104 and I think it had something to do with that.)

I get migraines too. from the research I've done, foods can be a trigger but can be different from one person to the next. Some other triggers can be not enough sleep, stress, scents, and even weather. For me weather changes are a trigger, I always get a migraine a day or two before a thunderstorm, and it goes away almost instantly after the storm starts, great for predicting weather but I'd rather do w/out it :) Spring is the worst time of year cause there's lots of storms here then.

i've found that exercising regularly and avoiding foods w/a lot of preservatives in them helps me too.
