1 mile...under 2 mins?

I decided to see how long it takes me to run a mile today, just for fun. So I live on a farm and i porbably ran a mile (It may be off a few yards because there's no way to measure, but I'm sure it was a mile. So I grabbed my cell, set the stopwatch, and started running. Now I did have to stop 2 times- I paused the clock both times- to take a breath, because it's cold out and I inhaled too much cold hair (My chest started feeling really icy), but basically it took me 1 minute and 47 seconds to run a mile. Is this bad? I mean it kinda sounds slow to me.

Considering that the world record for the Women's mile is about 4:12 seconds... I'd say your timing was a little off.  1:47 for a mile is improbably fast.
Good job on the run but I dont think it was a mile.:)  I was interested in the fastest recorded mile so I found this for you....

Athletes from Down Under came out on top Saturday. Sarah Jamieson set an Australian national record in the women's mile with a time of 4:28.03. She was followed in the race by two-time U.S. Olympian Shayne Culpepper, coming back from pregnancy with 4:31.35.
It is a mile, or really close, my mom drove it and used the thingy that counts the miles on her car and it said like 1/2 a mile and I did it twice. Even if it was only 3/4 mile is 1.47 a good time?
Well, yes.  1:47 would be an amazing time for 3/4 mile.  Highly unlikely, but amazing.
Well I'm a really fast runner, our driveway is 1/4 mile (it was measured) and I can get down that in 15-20 seconds depending on how tired I am.
You would have to run 40mph to do that time...

I don't think you understand, there is no way a human can run a mile in 1 minute, 47 seconds. Your distance was way off. You said it "sounds slow." What do you mean "sounds" slow? It's an impossible time.
1 minute and 47 seconds for a mile? Wow, that seems really, really unlikely. Or either you should be in the Olympics but other than that, I'm rather dubious. :/ And a 400 meter run in 15-20 seconds seems strange also. Like I said: either you're an insanely good Olympic athlete or the distance is off. :)
1:47 is more the pace I'd expect for a tenth of a mile.  Maybe mom looked at the wrong number on the odometer.
I think you probably need to go to a real track, and have someone with a real stop watch time you.  I'm a very fast runner and broke several records myself, and have never run a mile under 6 minutes!  So either someone's odometer is broken, or your stopwatch is broken... or maybe you're just part human and part cheetah. lol
1:47 for a mile?  I think Sea Biscut could go that fast.
My son runs the 800 meters in track and his time is a little over 2 min. cant' remember exactly. But he was kinda of fast for his level but not quite qualifing for state level. Perhaps your measurements are inccorrect? I agree with raquestar, go to a track and have some one time you.  Also, I think the resting should count as part of your time.
Go to your local high school they should have a track that goes around the football field. 4 times around that is 1 mile. Now go and do it speedy...............
consider a mile a minute = 60 Miles an hour and do the math.

I ran Varsity Cross Country in highschool and even made it to the state finals, and the fastest mile i ever ran was around 5 minutes (this was over hills on grass during a 3 mile long race, i dont recall my fastest single mile on a flat track).

Go to a local highschool track and run around it 4 times, then you will see what a mile is.
What I usually do to measure the distances is to get in my car watch the odometer.
fitdan- Hey mother did do that. It was wrong though.
Lol I guess I missed that post when reading :-)
check out WWW.gmap-pedometer.com

It will measure anywhere in the world for you.  Just zoom in on your neighborhood and start measuring your mile.  If you can run a mile in less than 2 minutes, I want to be your agent.
