I did it 10,000 miles on a bike!!!
Back in January I made a challenge to ride my bike 10,000 miles by the end of 2007. Well today I passed the 10,000 mile mark.
It took me 290 days to complete the distance. I averaged 34.5 miles a day everyday since Jan. 1st. If you use 17 mph as the average speed, it works out to 580 hours or 24.2 days on a bike.
One thing I learned is that is a long time to spend on a bike and I don't think I will try it again. I am so tired, I can't wait to take some time off and do something else for a while.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your achievment. How many calories did you burn?
Congrats on the awesome achievement. My rear is sore just thinking about all that time on a bike -- glad it was over 10 months and not all at once at least HEHEHe
Take some well deserved time off - and what activity are you thinking about doing now??
gmule, Thanks. I have no idea about the cals, I know i have been eating ALOT!
dbacker, winter is almost upon us, let's ski!!!

Congratulations, Dan. You not only did a lot of riding, you got in a variety of pretty good rides. You demonstrated that properly planned exercise can be fun and adventuresome. You are in for a well deserved rest. But be careful. As you said you have been eating a lot. It is easier to stop exercising than it is to stop eating. So don't get so far from your exercise routines that you lose that slim, trim body your worked so hard for.

WOW. I can't even imagine that. So.....how many tires did you wear out?
Thanks everyone,
Joe, I will try my hardest to stay trim!!

Dan,
WOW, you are my HERO!! That is amazing. I know just how much time you really had to put in to accomplish that! And 17mph is FAST.....do you ride with a mountain bike or road bike? My highest average (with lots of hills) is 15.9 mph. And 34.5 miles AVERAGE per day is AMAAAZING. WOWEE! I regularly bike 22 miles a day when I bike (sometimes more), but EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY DAY?? You are a machine Dan!
FYI: I was an eating machine while biking too. Weather isn't very cooperative here in MI for outdoor biking though for much longer!
Pat yourself on the back! I sincerely hope you are very proud of all you have set out to accomplish!

My butt hurts just thinking about that!! That's really awesome!!!
townes, I'm mostly a roadie, but I do moutain bike a little. 17 mph is a conservative number, as an example I did a 111 mile ride last week at a average speed of 18.8. Last night was 20.5 for 35 miles. I live in Ohio so I feel your pain at the onset of winter, be riding the trainer indoors soon.
andesite, You just need a real good saddle and a numb butt,LOL!!
Thanks, DAN

Dan, that is wonderful news!!! Congratulations for achieving your goal with months to spare for recovery. :) It's been an inspiration to see you go after it this way!
I just worked that out and with that excersise alone, you would've lost nearly 125 pounds! Did you lose that much? XP
Wow. Congrats. :D
whatis, I started at 185, got down to 138, and now I'm at 155 (5'9") so I'm still well within a healthy BMI number, but I would like to get back to 150 before next summer. I found that all the riding made me eat at a higher level and now it is hard to get control of myself.
However I do eat very healthy, I havent eaten fast food in two years. Just need to eat a little less now.
Thanks for the props, DAN
