50 miles a month, 100 miles a month!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,

I'm just starting a group of walkers/hikers!  (no runners please you just make me feel bad LOL)  Interval walk/joggers welcome!  Basically anyone who thinks 100 miles in a month seems Impossible!

I have set myself with a goal of Eventually walking 100 miles every month.  I'm Starting slow with 50 miles a month.

To break that down 50 miles a month is ~12 miles a week.

which is ~1.6 miles a day

So far I have 11.6 for the month of April.  Anyone want to join?

This weekend (weather permitting) I'll hike ~10 miles up Mt. Evans!  One of Colorado's 14'ners!

FYI: I am using Map my Walk (online) to help figure out the distance I cover for every walk, a Pedomiter is also a great tool for this.

I do martial arts in my weight vest fairly regularly, and it's MUCH more comfortable then it looks.  However not all vests are built the same.  You might want to look around.

Here are points that make it most comfortable.

1. Fully Adjustable.  Needs to fit tight.

2. For a girl you want the weight about at belly button hight... Too high and you are going to be top heavy... MORE top heavy.

3. If possible find one with sand or liquid instead of Bars... Bars can be a pain.

I would most STRONGLY recomend this one... but there are much cheeper options out there, like the first one I showed you:

OH OH Same thing and a bit Cheeper:

I don't need anymore boobs!  I am trying to sell some of the ones I have! HA!

In the meantime while I getting pumped for a vest..have anyonf you tried a back pack?  If so can you give  me some advice on packing it for it to be effective?  I'd like to start this evening.

Lil..you are so motivating!

aw your sweet.

Ya I JUST baught a back pack:

http://www.rei.com/product/780642

I'm Old fashioned but I perfer the External frame style that I grew up with.  The reason why I like it is they tend to be shorter and fatter... The benifit is that more of the weight is actually lined up with your body... Some Internal Frame packs go up above your head... Which... Top heavy... BAD

I think External packs like this one are BEST for large boobed girls.  However you should read this:

http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/back pack.html

Instead of Training with a Weight vest I will be training with a full Pack.  That and In Denver people don't look at you funny for doing it!

Dough... Sorry Looks like I went to the extreme with that.

OK if I was going to just use a standard back pack this is what I would do.

1. Find Weights...

Books really are the best...

Canned food perhaps.

But I would pick 1-2 gallons of water.  Just in the gallon jug.

Put a sweater between the jugs and another one so they wont be toughing your back.

Next Stuff the top with sweater so that the jug/s don't bounce as you walk, skip or jog.

Make sure the back pack has a strap that can fasten LOW on your waiste... The belt should force most of the weight OFF your shoulders and onto your hips.

It also keeps the bag from smacking you in the ass.

I will try this tonite! Wish me luck.

On the days I have to work my second job I usualyy don't do the 4 miles because I have to go from one job to another.  At my first job we have a free gym on the lower level.   Since I eat at my desk I am thinking of using my lunch break to walk on the treadmill.  I got home last night and I was not motivated at all to do anything. I come in around 9:30pm and trying to get an hour of heart pumping activity was not applealing.

You have my deepest sympathy 9:30 is a hard time to work out.  Hell I sit on my ass all day and have a hard time working out at night.

I think getting on the tread mill at lunch is a great idea.

Only thing I think that could be better is if you could get some fresh air and sun shine too.

My dog is still a puppy, so every day at lunch I go home to let him out.  We play in the back yard... WOW it's SO revitilizing it really makes my days 100% better.

Today I got to plant my Plum tree that FINALY came in the mail!!!

NOW don't Get so excited that you set your goals too high.  Remember if it just doesn't sound like fun... your going to wreck yourself.

Okay here are my stats for today:

AM: 1.26

PM: 5.17

Total: 6.43

I also used a backpack filled with books, an umbrella, other crap I could find near me this evening.  It was about 10 pounds me thinks..Some Lionel Ritchie came on the rotation!  Gotta love the 80's!

I think my walk to work is about 2 miles.  (It takes me between 30 and 40 minutes walking at a reasonable pace.)  So, 4 miles round trip, give or take.  I'm trying to walk to and from work as much as possible, so I'll bite.

Last week, I walked to and from work a couple of times.  At least one of them must have been Wed. or later.  So, let's say 4 miles last week.

Walked to and from work yesterday and today for another 8 miles total.

That gives me 12 miles as of Tuesday night (April 7th).

This whole miles thing is weird.  I'm a kilometers kind of girl.  Smile

(My cat says bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb to you all!  I have no idea what she means by that.)

Welcome! Feel free to translate your goal into Kilometers!

Try using Mapmywalk.com or even google maps to get your actual miles or kilos that way you always know what you are really doing... I think it builds confidence to say I walked EXACTLY this far and YES i know for sure!  :)

FAY Great JOB!

Girlfighting and Pezzle:  Come on ladies I know you got it in ya, I'm dieing to hear how you are doing!!

I Got my Plum tree today!!! SO I ended up gardening after work instead of my walk :( BUT gardening was great, so much of my stuff is growing, my broccoli, my soy beans!!!  I'm tickled pink.

I did go to the Zen center and meditated too.  So it was a great day for me regardless.

ugh! it rained yesterday afternoon so I got screwed on my walk! But it's nice today so I should be able to get in the 3 miles. On another sad note, the street where my walking path is located is being closed for construction! So Stating monday I won't be able to get to the trail! ugh again! I'll have to find a new place to walk ASAP!!!

Ack NOOOO...

Quickly to Google Maps!

Atleast today is beutiful GirlFighting!  Make the most of it, and do your best.

My tummy is a little sore from sit ups haha! I started the 200 sit up challenge and did the test yesterday, I got in 100 but didn't finish so Today I am going to do my lake run with the dog, 2.5 miles, and get in my push ups and sit ups on the dock.

Afterwards at 7pm I have black belt class for an hour.  I'm going to be a tired girl!

Wish me luck

Hey gang!

lol hey homegirl

Tell me how did the back pack treat you?

Me likey!  I am gonna add these 2 pound weights I bought to it.  I felt it made me walk a little straighter??? Odd.

I am having a hard time upping my caloric intake.  I am thinking of adding a low sugar slimfast drink in the evening. I just reviewed my daily intake and I am sometimes almost 400+ calories short of my daily caloric needs to effectively lose weight.  I am also way more active now.  My goal for the day is 1850 but the highest I've ever done is in the very low 1600's.  My average seems to be in the 1400's.

HELP!

Nut butters, oils and other healthy fats like avocado! yum! Very calorie dense and low bulk so you don't feel stuffed!

Nut butters like nutella?  *faints*

I will pass by the farmers market and see if they have avocados.  Thanks for the ideas!

Cliff Bars.  they are about 360 calories so they are really easy for a quick snack.  and they are taste and not full of crap.

how are you doing for your fruits?  protiens... Is there anything besides just calories you are missing?  Maybe you need more protien... so then yogurt would be a good choice.

I think she ment Nut Butters Like Almond Butter you pansie!

Almond butter...eww.

Nutella..YAY.  I can do some pretty unpleasnt things to Nutella Innocent

haha lilsmiter is right, or peanut butter. Nutella won't kill you but it would be better to had healthier food stuffs to up your cals

or following lilsmiter idea, larabars. I've never had then but i hear they are delish and healthy

Larabars... Delish... Sadly not so much.
