Military Ladies

So i was just wondering if any of you are involved with the Military in any way, like myself?  i thought this would be a good convo starter :)

my boyfriend is currently in the Navy (has been for 8 years now) he's a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class (try saying that ten times fast) and is currently on shore duty as the local recruiter in charge at the local station. we are preparing for a big move this December (provided the detailer actually gets Gary a spot where he has requested to go) to Kings Bay, Ga.. (well around the area, anyhow) as he has to go back to sea duty by way of a submarine (yep, he's a Nuke) this will be my first big move away from my family - the last one (not with my current boyfriend) was only two hours away, so i'm very anxious to say the least! incase you may be wondering -- we have been together for about a year and four months... we're not engaged, we are in a serious relationship though :)

I also have a really close friend in the Marines who is currently stationed in Iraq. he has a blog via out local newspaper (if interested http://blogs.citizen-times.com/blogs/index.ph p?blog=11)  its been really hard not having him here to talk too as he has always been the friend that i counted on no matter what.

One of my co workers is a Marine reservist as well...

and for a little more history, my dad served in the Navy years ago so he automatically has a brotherhood towars my boyfriend in that respect!

so you could say i'm a little tied into the Military life....

Hi, ladies!

I was an Army Reserve nurse for 6 years, although I spent most of the time on active duty. I am also married to an active duty Army computer programmer in the 18th airborne. I cant say I love everything about the military lifestyle or our current leadership, but it was a very valuable experience.

Gypsie - How was Saudi Arabia?
8 years in the AF.  Loved every minute and miss it a bunch, but I also love what I'm doing now, too!  I've been out for 10 years...EEK!  Where has the time gone?!!  I still love the military and have a soft spot for our folks in cammmie...or any other uniform!  L
It was better then Iraq for sure. It was back in 89-90. Was stuck in one spot. Did get to go to some princes palace for R&R. He was letting the military use it. We were in turkey in 79-80 lived on a compound. It was rough. Had to cover to go shopping , couldn't drive. Heard it's gotten better. Greece was great. We were stationed at an air base there.  I was a dental tech, my husband was in communications, my sister was an operating room tech. My son was in finance. It was very different back when I was in then now. We live by a military post and service members are leaving for the 3rd time for 15 months in Iraq. It's so hard for families right now. I was the experimental group to see if women could do what men did in basic training at ft. Jackson , S.C. 1976.
I'm trying to figure out if he's a Chief Petty Officer or a Petty Officer 1st Class. He can't be both.
10 years in the Army myself and DH just retired last October after 21 years.  He just got back from Iraq last May.

Gypsierose, Ft Jackson is where I did basic and AIT, but it was 1987. :o)  Two words for you:  Tank Hill.
Oh my goodness, TANK Hill it's still there! My son did basic at Ft Jackson too. When I did basic the guys were at tank hill, we were separated at the time. They called the guy "trees" . Don't talk to the trees.
My husband is in the Louisiana Army National Guard.  He's been to Afghanistan twice since 9/11 and spent 4 months in New Orleans after Katrina.  We're keeping our fingers crossed that he's not sent anywhere else anytime soon.

My best friend's husband is in the Air Force Reserves and should be returning from Iraq this week.
Gypsie - My Basis was July (hey, I left 20 years ago tomorrow!!!) and it was sooooooo miserable down there.

And fire ants.  I have scars from their bites - some on my backside!

Jennifer - I'll keep my fingers crossed/say some prayers that your hubby gets to stay home.  Thanks great news about friend's hubby coming home safely!!!  Iraq is one scary place. I didn't sleep well the whole 15 months my hubby was there.
I am a mom of a US Soldier.  My son is in the Army he is a  PFC. He was deployed to Iraq on June 23, 2007.   My father was in the Air Force.  Two uncles were in the Marines.  One uncle was a POW, during Viet Nam.  I have strong ties to the military.

Brother in Law in the AirForce.
rsrice -- he's a Petty Officer 1st Class - i apologize on that. he's the RINC at his current station...but he has not made Chief yet, although he took the Chief's Exam this past Jan and failed only by 3 questions - he is up to take it again Jan 08.. everyone has a ton of confidence in him & the fact that'll he get it this go-round.
Momofussoldier, I'll put your family in my prayers. What is your sons first name? It's scary but our guys are well trained but doesn't keep us moms from worry all the time. Are they getting better supplies now? My daughter in laws brother was over there twice back when this started. We sent goodies, books, and soap and everything to them. Is he on a 12 month tour? What post is he out of? We live next to Ft. Campbell, ky.  The NASA shuttle was here the other days waiting out the storm in FLA.

usngirlfriend, best wishes in your move it can be hard being away from your family but military wives can be a tight bunch. We were stationed in GA twice. Hot!

edited to fix spelling/gram.
I served in the Marines from 1994-1998. My husband who I met while we both stationed in Okinawa Japan  served from 1990-1999, and currently I have a brother who is serving in the Marines. He has about 3 weeks left of his enlistment and then he's coming home. I also have several uncles and a cousin who served in the Army along with both of my grandpa's who served in the Army. My one granpa is a veteran of the Korean war, and my brother served in Iraq for I believe 7 months.  We are a very military orientated family.
I grew up in the military. My father was a career military man (not the case so often nowadays). 20 years in the Air Force. He was an officer, so I am a spoiled officer's brat indeed :)
I LOVED being a military dependant.
My hubby joined the AF reserves, but it was not the same. The benefits are nil now, and he didn't like it either.

I will always love and appreciate what I experienced from being a dependant and commend those who are actually serving.

Thank you!
Like MC, I was also raised in a career military family...Air Force as well, but my dad wasn't an officer so I'm not as spoiled as she is!!  ;-)  Growing up in a military family makes you a strong person.  It is not easy moving around and always having to make new friends as well as always saying goodbye to the ones you have.

My son served 8 years in the Army and was in Iraq twice.  My dil is still in the Army and has been to Iraq twice as well (they were there together).

The military has always been a part of my life and continues to be as I now work with veterans.
My son went to his basic training in Ft. Jackson.  We went there for graduation in August.  He has a 15 month tour in Iraq. He was deployed on June 23, 2007. For now they are in Mississippi doing more training till the end of July then off to Iraq.
I am in the Air Force. I love to know that I am not the only Military woman here. That is the reason I joined the site, I need to stay in shape so i can stay in. I am at Travis AFB, California
I was in the Army Reserves from 96-04.  Enlisted Army Nurse.  I married a Marine ( Marines are way hot, by the way!)   I was an active duty wife from 04-05 in Beaufort SC (love it there) then hubby went resreves after his 4 years was over.  He now transferred in to the Army Reserves (ironically my old unit) and he is now heaeded for the 86wM6 program which is the enlisted nurse program, we wanted to be active duty again but they do not offer that school to prior service...  My whole family is in or out of the military.  Dad a Marine, brothers Army, sister married to Army and me...

I am proud to say I served, would do it all over again, but my babies need me home, we'll let Daddy continue to be our hero!
Thanks for serving!  and for supporting!
