Any Military Spouses?

Quote  |  Reply
I was just wondering if anyone here is a military wife (or husband!)?  My husband is going on his sixth year in the USAF.  We have been stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ since he has joined.  I love meeting new spouses and thought this might be yet another good way to meet new people that shares my lifestyle.  I am new to this site and am looking for some friends to help motivate me and keep me on track with my weight loss goal!  Please post the branch of the military and the bast you are stationed at!  Thanks!

My husband is National Guard.  He's been in 4 years and has done one tour in Iraq.  We were just married 11/25/06.
My husbands is USAF (zoom zoom!) hehe, sorry. He's stationed in Korea right now unaccoumpanied, but we're heading to aviano AFB here pretty soon, hes going over the end of next month and I'm going over in June after I graduate. I'm heading out to Oaklahoma in a couple of weeks to see him for a bit between bases, it will be fun but everytime I go to Oaklahoma I gain 10 pounds. blah. hopefully it will be better this time.
I figure that being a Military wife is one of the most difficult things we have do, we have to deal with deployments, lack of information from command, moving constantly and long periods without our partners. We're a tough group, we just need to take that tenacity and channel it towards our weight loss.

baepler, congrats on the marriage!  Here's to a long and happy relationship for the both of you!  Where are you from?

nymlee, Italy sounds awesome!  My best friend's husband is in Korea right now for a year long tour...is your husband at Osan or Kunsan?  What college are you going to?  I just graduated with my BA in Liberal Arts from Penn State University in December...it was quite an accomplishment for me, but took up a lot of my time...now I am trying to focus on myself!
We are from Missouri.  Hubby works full time for the Guard but luckily him not being active duty means we don't have to worry about being moved.  He's thought about going AGR (Active Guard Reserve) a couple times but has never done it.  I have so much respect for those wives that do have to deal with deployments.  I know it is almost certain that I will to but fortunatly it hasn't happened yet.
What does he do?  Does he like it?  Almost every military wife will encounter deployments...you learn to get used to it...
He's an Admin NCO for Headquarters unit right now.  It is a crazy busy job because it's the largest unit in the state.  He actually just got a new job working in Information Management section but hasn't started yet.

So how long have you been married?  What's the longest your husband has been away?
My husband is in the Marine Corps. We are currently in San Antonio, Tx, on recruiting duty, ugh!!! One year down, and two to go. We have been in 12 years in July.  Eight more years then i can get a house of my own and paint the rooms any color I want!!!! Cant wait!!

Keep motivated, and keep counting your calories!!!!

It has helped me to give myself a treat every saturday evening, an ice cream, chips and salsa, or a couple of small cookies. This way I dont feel so deprived during the week and risk blowing my calorie intake. Good luck
My hubby is in Fort Bliss, Texas training for a deployment to Afghanistan this August.   (We are from Alberta, Canada).
My husband was in a motorcycle accident a few years ago, so since then he has been undeployable.  Right after, his shop switched TDY places to Iraq (his job would have been to drive the fuel trucks in the convoys).  In a way, I'm actually thankful that he was in a motorcycle accident and survived...he has never had to go anywhere like Iraq.  gaylemccluskey, I agree...we will be purchasing our first house this year, and I am painting EVERY SINGLE ROOM A DIFFERENT COLOR!  I am so sick of looking at off-white!!!
U.S Army : 3d ACR 3/3 66MI : Fort Hood, TX

I totally understand about having every room a different color.  That's awesome!

My husband's unit will be leaving in August/September for Tajji.
Hi I'm brand new here (fist post :) I'm not a military spouse, but i am in the air force...does that count? I am currently stationed at Dyess AFB TX. I have been in for almost 5 years now and my husband was AD military but he got the boot about a year ago becasue he was diagnosed with Asthma. nice to meat you all :)
Both 1st hubby and 2nd hubby were in the military, as was I.  I am so thankful that my hubby just retired last October after 21 years.  I don't think I could take another Iraq deployment.

Anybody else had PTSD issues when their spouse got back?  I swear I think he wants to go back sometimes.....but this lasy deployment (he got home in May 06) really seems to have changed him.  I still don't feel as if things are "right" yet with us and/or he and the kids.  He says he'll go talk to someone, but nothing as yet.

Hee! Hee! Hee! Once we bought this house I went crazy painting and papering!  The only room that is white is my step-son's and it's cause he wanted it that way! :o)  I even let the kids paint the ceilings!  GASP!
Welcome smichelle21!  Good luck on your weight loss journey.  I have a girl friend who is at Dyess...what squadron are you in?

kallie67, have you ever watched Home of the Brave?  Your post made me think of the film, because that is exactly what this is about.  If you haven't watched it, I totally recommend it...maybe it can give you a little insight or help!

Since the beginning of my husband's Air Force career, we have been stuck at McGuire in New Jersey.  I was at the Air Force Academy in Colorado to visit my brother when he was attending school there, and then down to Charleston AFB in SC to visit him (he is a C-17 pilot) last summer.  Charleston is beautiful and I would love to get down there myself!

Does anyone else have a favorite location?  Why did you like it?
Nope, haven't see it but will check it out.  Aythign that can help even a little will be great!  Thanks for the info!!!!!

I loved Charleston for all of the history - same with Savannah.  Got to see lots of both cities when we were stationed in SC and GA.

Florida was ok, but missed the change of seasons. With first hubby who was in the CG were were in Key West and that was pretty cool then we lived in St. Pete cause he was at Airstation Clearwater.  In teh Army I was stationed up in Bayonne, NJ and the only really good part about that was going into NYC on days off. Plays, shopping, restaurants, museums....it was great. Hmmm...guess I didn't name a fav. - They all had their positives.  I think I'd have to say Key West - it was so laid back and I totally got intot hat.  Plus being in our early 20's and an island full of bars...bring it on!
My husband is in the Airforce for 13 years now

1st base was oklahoma (tinker)

2nd base Belleve Ne.  (offett)

3rd base Chareston Sc

4th base Is right now about 1 year into our 4 year tour is overseas here in Guam.

Small island in the South Pacifc.  The island is about 35 miles long and 12 miles wide.  We are about 5 hour plane ride from Japan and 21 hours from the east coast.

It is HOT here year around. I Would love to go and play in the snow in N.Y. right now. Ave temp is 87 in the day and 78 in the night.  It is so Humid it is hard to discribe.  But being that we are about next to the equator, what can you expect.

Our 5th and final base I hope for in the mid west.  Maybe a state with 4 seasons.
Yeah, I missed seasons too when we were in FL.

I lived in Omaha for about 8 years.  It's not as bad there as everyone thinks.  I really miss the zoo!
Friends of ours just got to Guam a few weeks ago...I would love to go there, however I would think that it would get boring, seeing how it's so small of an island.  On the other hand, in NJ it is very icy and cold...i could go for a day on the beach...
Imagine being sprawled on a blanket in the sun, your eyes are closed and you can hear the waves hitting the shore.  Your body is warm from the sun....ah...can't wait for summer!!!!
I deffinetly miss omaha, the zoo was great and the playhouse, the malls having an interstae is missed being here in guam.

It is really nice having the ocean everyday, as an option to spend the day.

The smell of the ocean air is truley wonderful.  But I would kill for the main land.  Guam is way to small and slow paced.  The only main store from the mainland is K-Mart and I have never liked K-Mart then and really don't like it now.

Although they are just starting to build a home depoe.  Well it is somthing else I guess.

3 more years here is a VERY VERY LONG TIME though, and plane tickets back to the states are crazy high. Average is 1600.00
Holy cow.  Yeah, 1600 is a bit pricey on military pay! :o)  9Or any pay really - I couldn't afford that right now to go anywhere - I refuse to add more debt to my life!)

I loved the Old Market in Omaha too - Spaghetti Works was one of our favorite places.  My daughter was 4-5 yrs old and man could she pack it in!  And the "bumpy slides" at the park downtown. Ever do that?  They were great!  Get some wax paper and you really fly!
