Is milk bad for the brain?
Asked by personwhoizme on Oct 29, 2009 in Nutrition

My host mom told me that milk is bad for your brain if you drink too much.  Is that true?

Answer

A study that came out of the Neuropsychiatric Imaging Research Laboratory at Duke University found a positive association between brain lesions in elderly individuals and consumption of both calcium and vitamin D.  Milk is a rich source of both calcium and vitamin D.  The association could be due to vascular calcification, which slows down blood circulation; however, much more research is needed in order to draw a valid conclusion.  Nevertheless, the study got a lot of press coverage.
