What would a mini-meal consist of?
Asked by kappamater on Mar 20, 2009 in Nutrition

Answer

Think of a mini-meal as about one half of a normal meal for a particular individual.  Like a major meal, it contains several food groups, or least the nutrients they provide.  A mini-meal may consist of cereal milk and fruit, a waffle with peanut butter and banana, a frozen entrée, a whole or half sandwich, a meal bar and a shake, a smoothie, or last night’s leftovers.  People eat mini-meals, instead of two or three larger meals, as a way to feel full longer and to stay energized all day long.  Compare this 1500 calorie meal plan with three meals a day to another with six “mini-meals” a day.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
