Anywhere here use one for exercise ? I got one yesterday and boy ole boy did it kick my butt this morning. I only managed to get 10 minutes on it and my heart rate was higher than in my target zone when I checked it afterwards.  I guess what I am asking is will it get better with time and not strain me so much?

Hi!!! Enjoy it!!! It is an awesome cardio exercise. I lost 50 lbs once with it as my only exercise, but DID starve myself then-- don't try THAT! lol. I know better now! :-) It came back when I went back to eating and quit exercising... Now, I'm losing steadily, feeling great, and not starving! 23lbs. today, 70 or so to go-- this time next year I'll be there! AND, Stay There! It IS incredible to know healthy dieting WORKS!!!

I just looked in the 'search' under 'forums' for 'trampoline' and saw some info there. You can call it rebounding/rebounder, actually, as well as mini-tramp, etc. It is wonderful for heavy folks like me, and safe for your joints! Also, I had to give up walking far due to frequent bathroom runs, and the bathroom is always close, lol! As well as my fan, stereo, (it is VERY helpful, alternating beats challenge me to speed up and slow down), and special shoes/clothes are no prob, too :-) Weather never interferes, either! Nor do I feel 'watched' and noticed for my weight- or hindered by talkers! The calorie burn is impressive, and easier to me.

There was a link that told about them in a forum I wrote into, that was great, if you want to go to my profile and look for it in the few I've written. I found a link there to exercises for it, too, I believe.

Also, check out the help I've received about strength training- it is really important for our weight loss and long term sucess! I wish I'd known how important before I got so old! (45 shortly) This site has changed a life of 'hopeless' into totally convinced; 'The Battle IS Over!!!'

Never quit, you can do great with it, and listen to your body for how much to do at first-  I was taught "Rome wasn't built in a day", so don't rush it too hard, too fast! You'll LOVE it if you do!

Thank you for your response. It has motivated me to keep up with it.

paleorchid, your only real problem is that you started out too hard.  Take it easier next time!  There's no question about it:  you will get fitter over time, but there's never a need to beat yourself up.

I bought a rebounder earlier this year, and didn't do more than a minute at a time (but 5-10 times per day) of very gentle bouncing for most of the first week.  It wasn't a question of not being fit enough for me, it's just that any new routine should be approached gently.  You'll probably be sore tomorrow, because you overdid it today, and while rebounding is easy on the joints, your feet get a pretty good pounding.

Next time try to have fun with it instead?   Kids love bouncing just because it is fun, and you can find that inside you too if you let it come out :-)

Here's a good source for books and video/DVD routines:

While I don't agree with some of what she says, Karol Truman's "Looking Good - Feeling Great" book sold there does give very good advice on how to get started at a pace that will leave you wanting to come back for more.  Rebounding is a very enjoyable, and effective, kind of aerobic activity, if you respect that it will take time to build strength and endurance for it.  At the start, exercise less, play more.

Thanks tgpish!!! THAT was the link I wanted to share- but I don't know how to do links- AND I Couldn't Find My Own Profile Here!!!  LOL :-)  Your advice has often been a lotta' help ta' me, too!

Thank you so much for the advice, Tgpish. I now know to take it much easier until I get used to it.  You were right.  My body was very sore after what I did to it.  I won't make that mistake again.

I do like it though, very much so.
i have a mini trampoline there great for doing lunges on and jumping jacks and twists you can also use it as a step to or to do pushups n situps on

paleorchid, just remember that consistency is more important than intensity.  Indeed, that's pretty much the whole "secret" to making progress at the start!  Do something every day, but stop when it gets unpleasantly uncomfortable.  Then you'll want to do it again.  Over time, you'll get better and better at it.

Most of the day my rebounder sits near the entrance to my kitchen, because that's the room I enter most often each day.  Every time I enter, I ask myself "care for a bounce?", and about a third of the time my head answers "ya, let's!" :-)  I don't do much then, just a few minutes bouncing while rotating the shoulders, swinging the arms, letting my neck go loose, twisting my hips, walking in place ..., whatever the body feels like doing.  That's no effort at all, just wonderfully relaxing, and doesn't require any preparation or cleanup (doesn't matter what I'm wearing, doesn't even matter whether I have shoes on at the time).

Do that several times each day, and keep your "real exercise" sessions only mildly more challenging across days, and you'll be amazed at how fast you progress.
I am just about to go and pick up my mini trampoline and after reading all your posts i'm even more excited!! Thanks for the hints and tips!!

Weight loss here i come!!
Enjoy!!!

hey, my mum got one but lost interest in it after 2 mins of having it so i got it instead and i love it. It hurt like hell at first in my legs but i now do half an hour with 0.5 kg weights in each hand. Wonders for losing and toning!
