Minimal Exercise, fat/calories, New- appreciate any advice

Quote  |  Reply

Hi I'm new.

This might be a little silly for me to use - considering I don't have a scale - but I am estimating what my weight was from the last time I was weighed a few months ago.. and I'd rather just go by looking at myself rather than rely on numbers.. but we'll see how this works out.

Unfortunately I have very minimal time to exercise, and I am completely exhausted after work.. But I walk a lot because I live in NYC.  So i'm wondering, if I eat about 1500 calories a day with 25 grams of fat would I be able to lose weight without intense exercising? Aprox. how much and how quickly?  Or, what would you recommend?

I'm about 128 lbs or so, and I'm 5'2''.  Websites say I have a medium frame, but I think it's small - i have really short fingers so that wrist test seems inaccurate.

Thanks

Buy yourself a pedometer (a *good* one) so you will have an idea of how much you walk. This will help you calculate how many calories you burn. Most people tend to overestimate calories burned during exercise, so an accurate count is key.
I was told 1300 calories (and moderate exercise) by a nutritionist. Even so I am loosing weight extremely slowly, and I am pretty diligent with calorie count and exercise log. Must have a horrid metabolism. I was 5'1, 137 pounds (am 120 now). But all of this is useless unless you have a pretty good idea of how many calories you are burning.

Here is what my doctor just told me. The secret to weight loss is eating the right number of calories. Exercise really doesn't factor in to weight loss when it comes to calories. (I think it contributes to a healthier body and increased muscle mass which allows you to eat more - ie sedentary vs moderate).

She said that exercise is useful when you're in weight maintenance because it gives you wiggle room to eat a few more calories now and then. But it doesn't significantly contribute to weight loss.

I used to be a real gymrat before I put on the pounds so I'm not sure I completely buy in to this, but since I only have time to be moderately active, I'm going to see if I can lose my 30 lbs according to her consultation.

I think you should figure out your BMR first and THEN decide your caloric restrictions from there. That can make a big difference!

Since you walk a lot, that would probably put you at moderately active..so CC will tell you what your burn-rate is. Remember, one pound= 3500 calories. So depending on how much you think you should lose, subtract from your burn meter.

Good luck!

I am 5'1" and try and to eat around 1250, to 1350, I have a sendentary job, but up and doing stuff at home (I have a 3 1/2 year old son).  I work out about 3-4 times per week.  I am losing weight, not fast but losing I have lost 6.5 lbs in two months.

How often should you eat during the day?
