Minimizing stress at the mall to lose weight

Quote  |  Reply

I had been doing well on my diet until last week when I became really stressed out. I went with a bunch of my skinny friends to the mall and all my self esteem was gone. I immediately fell into the role of the funny fat girl. I can't believe all the stuff I ate. All I bought was food. It was almost like an act of rebellion. I felt embarrased of myself. I saw myself in the mirror and that image has haunted me the rest of the week. I am so depressed now. I feel like I will never lose weight. My weight loss has literally been about 1/2 pound a week. I have lost no weight this week and have been trying to calm down my eating and my bloating. I wish I could feel better while I was losing weight, but I just feel so unattractive. I used to feel better about myself, but that has changed. I try to avoid all mirrors now.

I'd take a look at your diet....  Be honest.   Are you actually  enjoying it?  Do you wake up in the morning thinking 'Woo-hoo!' or 'Oh crap....'?  Because if you're not enjoying the way you've chosen to lose weight then you'll break out at the first opportunity.  If you're trying to exist on too few calories or boring, joyless meals then when you get to a mall you'll be like a kid in a sweet shop.  I think that's what happend to you.... you were stressed out, hacked off with being on a diet and you went for it!!  So don't feel bad, I think everyone's done that.

What you've got to do now is tell yourself that you're a fantastic, valuable, attractive, intelligent woman and not the 'funny fat girl'.  Seriously.  Look at yourself square on in the mirror, think of all your good points, accept yourself as you really are, and tell yourself that you are 100% worth looking after and that you  deserve the best and you deserve respect.  And that from now on you're going to quit dieting and instead be enjoying (key word) a healthier lifestyle all round.

A healthy lifestyle beats dieting because it's something you do 24/7.  Give yourself plenty of calories to work with..... a reasonable total rather than something drastic.  You aim for 80-90% wholesome, healthy, nutritious foods... and 10-20% 'fun' foods.  You go for some regular exercise/activity that you enjoy enough to keep doing.  Eating better rather than simply less will help lift your depression and ease the bloating.  And because it's all more flexible and more fun, you'll be happier and you won't end up bingeing at a mall again.

Best of luck

i know this all too well, i have some temper and when i get mad or sad while diets i always give up and say to hell with everything but now with this diet every time i get mad i always tell myself "I will not give up" a couple of time and then i feel better.

Next time you go shopping with your friends just think that soon you'll be skinny too and if you look in a mirror try to see the differences, i never can but its fun to know its there. the last time i went to a mall before the diet i saw myself in the glass walls and i though how huge i was but now even if i can't see it i know its there.
