Minimum Calories In take for Shorties

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all! I am new and TINY ( just about 5 feet) 102 pounds with small frame. Just want to lose the bit of bulge left so i can look a bit longer (woes of being short). Goal around 92 ish (I was at that weight about 1 year ago, but I guess i ate a lot over the summer)

I am unsure about daily minimum calories intake.

I tried calculating the BMR. According to several online calculators, my rate is about 1280 ish. Some of them calculates include the activity(sedantary, light activity, active, intense activity etc.), and that will increase the number to about 1550 cal/day. which number should I go by? what exercises should i log if i selected sedantary?

To lose weight, I'll have to eat less than that and start doing more exercises. Many places, I read about the magic number of 1200cal/day as min. or else our metabolism will go into starvation mode, muscle break down, not enough vitamins, bad for organs etc.

but trying to lose weight with 80 cal deficite per day is just ridicuously slow. For us tiny people, is it reasonable to eat 1000 cal/day? how much do you guys eat? what do you suggest I should do?

Thanks!

Hey, I am the same height as you and weigh 120 pounds and its AWFUL. My ideal weight would be 100 pounds.

I feel so fat compared to all my friends (who even weigh more than i do but still look stick thin!)

I eat around 800-900 calories a day and hope to reach my ideal weight by february xx

CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO!

You shouldn't go under 1200, so amp up your calorie deficit by adding cardio!

I've done some research on this, and apparently your body needs 1200 calories to function--so I think it would be bad to toss that aside...Going under that is bad for your body and could make your body go into starvation mode where everything you eat goes straight to fat because your body doesn't know when it's going to get enough food! So I would bump up your calorie intake!

I actually did the same thing (ate 800 calories rather than 1200). I realized I lost 2 pounds a week at 800 calories instead of 1 at 1200, but then I stopped losing and started gaining--when I was eating practically nothing! It was so depressing. You may lose more weight in the short term but in the long term you'll gain it! Plus, once you finish dieting, is it reasonable to think you're going to eat that little for the rest of your life to maintain?

Good luck guys!

ARGHH!!

My dad is taking me out to an indian restaurant tonight. Does anybody know which food has the least amount of calories?!

Im thinking maybe chikken tikka pieces with boiled rice..

xx

After I have been reading more on the forums, I realized that I really shouldn't eat only 800 calories. I am eating 1200 calories a day and running about 10 miles a week and  joined a running forum. That still gives me a 500 calories deficit a day which is just the right amount for us shorties.

Losing weight too fast is bad for you. Furthermore if you go into starvation mode ,not only does your metabolish go down, you also start burning into your muscles, even muscles that are crucial for your survival, like heart muscles. PLEASE! For your own sake EAT MORE!

We  are all still young, pleaes don't mess up your body. You might not feel it now, but it will come back and hunt you later in life.
