Is a 15-Minute Circuit Workout as effective as a 30-Minute Heavy Lifting Workout?

Quote  |  Reply

There are days (quite frequently actually ha!) when I just don't have enough time to lift heavy weights for 30 mins. I'm also lazy to do so at times Frown

Is a circuit workout such as this as effective as a good heavy dumbbell workout?

Thanks, guys!!! Laughing

Effective in what way?

I didn't watch it all, but I think I got the idea.  It's more a cardio workout -- somewhat like complexes and is quick and fun to do.  I do Cosgrove's complexes at the end of some of my weight workouts.

It's a good calorie burner, but it's not likely to get you stronger or help in maintaining or building muscle.

- "Effective" as in, would it give me the same results as weight lifting (moderate-intense) for 20~30 mins.

And mmmm.... I'm not sure whether my circuit workout is "fun to do" haha! Frown

So it's a good calorie burner, but not a good way to build/maintain muscle???

What if I feel sore after the workout for few days?

If the weights are not challenging your muscles -- and I don't think they really could be -- then it's not going to have much benefit to your muscles.

But it does seem like a good cardio type workout.

Soreness is not a good measure of how hard your mucles are working.

- Hmmm~ when you say "challenging," you mean that I'd be struggling to get 8-10 reps, right? In this circuit training workout, you had to repeat the entire set 3 times. So.... near the end, I really did struggle. Does that count? Ugh...
