15 minutes are you kidding??

Quote  |  Reply

Hey all,

I've recently started upping my exercise and eating well and all the usual stuff but today I thought right I'm really gonna try and do an exercise video cause I haven't in a while.

I used to be able to go right through these vids, sometimes one after another for an hour and a half... but today I could only do 15 minutes!!

What the?

I physically couldn't do anymore I was so pooped. Now that was a kick up the butt I can tell you. But is this normal? I have never experienced it before with aerobics and it was so horrid :(

The old saying, "use it or lose it", applies.  You will not maintain strength or cardiovascular fitness if you do stay active and work at it.  But you can always work your way back.

Yeah, welcome to the world of "getting back in shape." You'll probably suffer tomorrow from those 15 minutes, too, with sore muscles! There's a cheerful thought!

But, seriously, you are doing the right thing, just go slowly and don't let your memories of "before" lead you to overdo it now. In fact, you probably have the ability to listen to your body better than someone who has never worked out and if you really LISTEN, you will be able to come back without making the mistake of overdoing it.

Best of luck, and congrats for getting on the horse again!

Thanks for the support! It's one of the hardest things I have ever done, can't believe it, but one thing is for sure it's a good thing to remember when I'm back in shape, don't get like this again! Phew!

Cheer up, you'll find you will get fitter faster this time.

I was also thinking, is there anything before I workout that I could eat that would keep my energy levels and stamina higher than usual because that could help a lot?

Well, apple juice mixed with lots of water works wonders for me! I take a sip every now and then during workouts, and my energy levels during workout are definitely higher than with plain water.

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?

You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
