Miscarried our first, trying to lose pregnancy weight, but want to conceive again asap

Quote  |  Reply

Hello,

I had a D&C on 15 Jan, about a week after my first prenatal appointment during which we found out there was no heartbeat (I would've been around 7-8 weeks). It was tough for us (and hard to have to find out during the ultrasound), but we are ready to try again after my follow-up appointment and after the spotting stops.

In the meantime, I look like I have a pregnant belly and I can't stand it b/c I'm not pregnant (or postpartum for that matter). I cannot fit into my work clothes or my favorite jeans. I have about 7 pounds to lose between the pregnancy and the holidays; I was so hungry while pregnant that I guess I gained more than I should have.

I will be 35 in October, and we really want a baby ASAP. I am continuing the prenatal vitamins, but being careful not to overeat--hence Calorie Count--while having a balanced (but not calorie-restricted) diet. I also exercise for about 45 minutes, 3-5 days/week.

Have any of you been through this? Any tips on TTC or losing the "pregnant belly"?

I went through miscarriages before I had my 1 st daughter, so I just wanted to say sorry, and I wish you the best.

A couple things I can suggest is drink plenty of OJ for folic acid....which is great for the beginnning of pregnancy, but should be well established before you get pregnant, and also, I learned in trying to get preggo....KY kills sperm, so don't use lube when TTC. (Need every little guy to be on their best...LOL)

Good luck!! The baby that was meant to be your baby will come.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I also had a miscarriage before I had my three children and I was devastated by it.  It's a very difficult thing to go through and I was depressed for a long time afterwards.  It took us about 8 months to get pregnant again which was frustrating because I wanted it to happen immediately.  I would just recommend that you maintain a healthy exercise routine and healthy diet and the belly should return to normal soon.

Again, my sympathies on your loss and good luck with CC and your family.

I am sorry for your loss - I know how hard that is.  I also miscarried my first, and I also had gained way to much with that pregnancy.  I could not wait to try to conceive and ended up getting pregnant right after my first period following the m/c - about a month later.  I am happy to say that I have a healthy almost 8 month old son now Smile.  I gained a LOT of weight during my second pregnancy, on top of the weight I had gained the first time around.  I am trying to lose it now - hard, hard, hard, hard Undecided.  My son is almost 8 months and I am just now getting serious with trying to lose though.  I would suggest that you don't try to "diet" right now, instead just try to eat healthy in anticipation of your next pregrenancy.  Good luck!

I'm truly sorry about your loss. I'm sure by now your Dr. has given you all the statistics that go along with miscarriage. I unfortunately had a miscarriage after my first child, and you do get through it. I'm 5 months now. We waited until the Dr. gave us the all clear to try again which was to wait until after a completer cycle. We were lucky and conceived right away and things are going great.

As for your weight gain, remember that your body takes time to stop producing hormones, so don't rush yourself. Just give yourself some guide lines and try to stick with them. Things will fall into place. You don't want to put so much stress on your body that it complicates getting pregnant again.

I wish you the best of luck, things will work out.

Update: I had my follow-up appointment today and though I am still spotting 2 weeks post-D&C, they said everything is okay. It will be a few more weeks before the genetic testing comes back on the fetal tissue.

Anyway, it is nice to hear that there is life after miscarriage. Thank you all so much for your encouragement.
