To go along the question of food that appear to be bad but are good, here is the side of the coin .

What is a food, that appears to be good for you but is actually BAD for you and just misperceived?

Margarine,

I'll find myself putting alot more on ending up eating more calories than if I was to just use butter! hahaha
Low-fat yogurt... MOST... although not all... are packed full of sugar
Dannon light and fit  cannot beat it at 80 cals
Olive Oil. For some reason I thought that it was less calories for you than other oils, then They all got nutritional lables...

Oh same with Burgers Vs. Hamburgers. I used to think that Hamburgers were way better for you than hot dogs...

Oh well~
Most, but not all, things that say they are "low fat" - like with the yogurt, they're most likely packed with sugar.

BTW, olive oil, as a general rule, is more healthy than other oils because of the type of fat (monounsaturated fatty acids), and a lot antioxidants - high calories does not necessarily mean "bad".  Of course, as with any fat, it needs to be used sparingly.  (And even it you don't have it in your diet, it's great for your skin!  Olive oil soap is awesome!)
Or sodium.

Darn that Sodium.

I love how some candies like jelly beans or marshmallows have "FAT FREE" on them. But they have 30g of sugar/serving.

Tricksters they are.
does this mean that yogurt is not as good for you as they say??
depends on the yogurt ...
Any foods at a chain restuarant that they don't disclose the nutritional information.  If they are keeping the values secret there is a reason.  I once saw a description of the calorie in some of the salads at Applebee's that were 1000+ calorie monsters.  To compare you could get the Quad Stacker at Burger King for that many, at least BK tells you it's nutritional value.   Of course Applebee's does have some low calorie selections on it's Weight Watchers section of the menu and they do disclose that.
Yeah I had to get a little snarky at Noodles and Company the other day to see the nutritional info. When I finally did get it out of the kids hands to look at it I found out if ya get the smaller portions of most of them they are not that bad. I have to say Chipotle seemed healthy at first...but once you dig deeper.....bad, very bad......
ohh boy..I think we should start another link for the best chain resturants to eat at and what are the best satisfying "not so bad for you" dishes you can have there .. what do you think guys ?
yep ive been everywhere
salads.
most restaraunt salads are just awful.

ruby tuesday's highest:
carolina chicken salad at 1025 calories

chilli's highest:
mesquitte chicken salad 1050 calories
can we eat out while counting calories ?? what should we eat when we do??
My Dad was trying to convince me that eating Tuna was bad because of all the heavy metals they contain... But I'm not too sure about that.
Healthy and low cal arent the same thing
Olive oil is super healthy. Just use it in moderation.
I think you cant label most foods "good" or "bad" just "better than" or "a worse choice, if you're focusses on cal/fat/nurtition/carbs".

Eg. Oil is cal dense. But good for nutrition. In small amounts. And you shoudl stick to olive. etc etc

but foods people think "I'm eating healthy" but arent?

- Apples pies (sooo fatty unless you make yourself. And people pile on the cream) or fruit tarts.
- Museli bars - can be fatty or sugary way too easily.
- Fruit muffin bars - usually ver buttery. Often you can find healthier biscuits!
- Granola - sounds/looks healthy with its fruit, but unless you get low-fat/sugar variety, can really pack on the pounds
- Chicken Caesar salad
- Veggies - drowned in butter or creamy sauces that is

in terms of cals, people are decieved by dried fruits and nuts, but I dont mind them - they're good for you you just need portion control

Of course, all the above can be made healthy, but i mean I see people doing it all the time. Going "i'm on a diet" and eating that rubbish from take away places blindly thinking its healthy.

I feel enlightend.

:o)

Thank you~
A lot of people eat salads thinking they're being healthy, then pour dressing all over it that are typically 99% calories from fat!
When I was younger I thought that having a bagel with cream cheese was better than a few oreos for a snack, later I found out how wrong I really was. Especially considering the fact that I thought I needed 3 tablespoons for one bagel.
