There's no reason you can't eat bread. Eating a sandwich here and there will not make you obese or anything. So if you want a sandwich, eat one!

i actually don't see what the problem is with bread.

as far as i know, as long as you don't eat 7 pieces a day, and buy a whole-grain, high-fiber, nutrient-dense bread, there shouldn't be a problem.

maybe buy a loaf, freeze it and thaw a piece of 2 when needed and have a sandwich twice a week, or every other day. or just have a sandwich with one piece of bread, all the "fixins" you want, accompanied by a soup. that's a balanced lunch, or even dinner.

carbs are NOT the enemy.

bread is a essential part of my diet, i dont see why people see it as so fattening.......... its funny as hell.

white bread is bad because its NOT filling and its empty as heck...it leaves you hungry agian soon... thats probably why people got fat in the first place.

when it comes to bread, eat very dense and filling breads, in the end, all bread is simply a source of carbohydrates, thats all.

theres nothing greater in my mind, than a hunk of dense german pumpernickel soaked in a stew and slurped up.
I eat a chicken sandwich on a 1/4 of a baguette almost every day, and have lost weight consistently.  Who says you can't eat bread?  There are so many wonderful breads out there, many of them quite healthful.  As long as you count it and balance the carbs with your protein, fat and get plenty of veggies, why not enjoy some?

It's not exactly a 'low carb healthy cure all alternative', but I like to eat sandwiches on wheat hamburger and hotdog rolls. Less calories because they come in smaller portions!

And I hardly ever eat bagels anymore, but if I really want one, I cut it into 3 'slices' instead of just cutting it in half into 2.

I love bread and to make sandwiches low cal I just don't have any filling or butter. Just bread. But then I'm not doing a low carbs thing and just focasing on calories.

Bread is good.

pumpernickle is the best with some tuna and a big tomato...mmmmmmmmm

Anything in moderation is fine. If your having a slice or two everyday, that is perfectly fine too. If youre concerned about calories, there are dfinitely some light breads out there. I've heard as low as 45 cals a slice (not that i can find them though... grr!)

For a bread alternative... what about those huge portebello mushrooms
I can understand people chucking candy from their diet as it is high in calories an has no nutritional value.

Bread, on the other hand, is pretty low in calories and high in nutrients, if you buy whole wheat bread. Nature's Own 100% whole wheat is 50 calories a slice with 4g protein and 2g fiber. Use two pieces of bread and fill it with lean lunch meat, tuna, or veggies.

Whole wheat is very healthy for you. You can read about the health benefits here :http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=food spice&dbid=66

Your diet shouldn't only consist of foods low in calories. You can have higher calorie foods as long as you don't overeat them. You can eat anything you want in moderation - portion control is the key.
I agree with pretty much everyone here... whole wheat bread has vitamins, fiber and protien and can be from 50cals to 110cals per slice. Some Orowheat bread (2 slices) can be like 220 calories with like 14 grams of fiber and 18 grams of protien. Toss on some mustard and turkey and that is a damn good, filling and healthy meal. Whole wheat bread is good for you... I am on a whole wheat english muffin kick right now.
please let yourself have some bread ......... food shouldnt be so hard:(

Sara Lee has whole wheat bread that's 45 calories a slice. You should be able to still eat the things you enjoy, without beating yourself up about it. It's important to keep a good relationship with food. It's okay to indulge yourself, so long as you aren't over indulgent. Carbs Good. Sugar Good. Sodium Good. These things aren't the enemy, so long as you eat in moderation. I find it sad when people cut things out completely that they used to enjoy. So long as you practice will power to balance your meals you can still eat those things. Have a sandwich already...

You should buy whole grain products.  Never bleached or enriched. That also applies to your crackers, spaghetti, cookies ect. It doesn't taste exactly the same that's a given. But, it's much healthier for you.

Another thing about bread is I don't buy white bread. I'd suggest cutting that out of your diet as well. For a lifestyle change because it's not as healthy for you. My mother used to tell us stories about it. She'd say that rats wouldn't even eat it, because it expands in their tummy causing them to die. My mother deemed it unfit for people since rats won't even eat it. ( Without dying. ) =-P I've heard the story multiple times from an assortment of people. I tried it when I got older but it taste soggy. Sorta gummy. I don't like it.
aright, well i'll try eating bread in moderation, but it's so hard to have the right amount of control! thanks for all your input...i'll look for that sara lee!
Be sure that you look closely. Some Sara Lee products are 45 calories a slice and some aren't...so you have to look for the little note on it. It's a rounded little advertisement that say 45 cal! Or just check the nutritional facts because they still sell the other. The packaging looks so close to the same thing, I wouldn't want you to mix the two up and be distraught. Lol It's there though ask for help if you can't find it because it's worth it. It's easy to let a healthy tool such as calorie counting, become an unhealthy obsession. So be careful not to let it give you a bad relationship  with food. I think a bad relationship with food is a disorder. Regardless if you're overweight, underweight, or within a healthy range for your stature. It's just not healthy mentally. There are signs that it's becoming something dangerous, just don't let it get that far. You have to catch it because calorie counting can become a healthy obsession that goes to an unhealthy extreme. Then even after you've reach your goal, you lower it. And then lower the new one ... and then still count. You just can't stop counting. Remember... Food is good. Your body needs it to survive so your organs can function normally. There comes a time once a person has reach their goal, they need to relax their counting. Or it can very easily turn into a disorder. It's still good to make healthier choices, but even something healthy can be taken to an unhealthy extreme.  Good Luck!
EAT THE BREAD!  I watch calories, not carbs but I just recently bought a loaf of light wheat bread at our local Giant Eagle.  70 calories in 2 slices and put on some Parkay spray on butter, no calories, no fat and very little sodium!  IT WAS AWESOME!  And I used it as a 'bun' for a ground sirlion burger the other night for supper.

ENJOY!!

I eat whole wheat english muffins every so often. They're good for making my own high protein egg mcmuffins.
I actually switched to a higher calorie whole grain bread when I started my weightloss journey.  I am 55 lbs. lighter and I have eaten at least 2 slices of bread nearly every day.
