I almost feel like I'm on Atkins. I have these english muffins in
the kitchen, torturing me. Should I just toss them out?

Toss those babies out. BUT you might want to smash them first. I have dug things out of the garbage before. I know....gross.
If you can't handle having one every once in a while, then you may need to get rid of them.
You don't need to avoid carbs...just make sure your carbs are coming from whole-grain breads and the like.

Just throwing this out there but there is no lower glycemic whole wheat type of english muffin on the market? Seems the fiber diet is going to be the new craze and think it might be worth taking a look at the super market last time. Just make sure to read the back and see that whole wheat is the first ingredient and high fructose corn syrup is not there or really low on the list. Hope this helps =).
Try Thomas English Muffins, Light MultiGrain, they were my crutch to get past too many bad carbs, I am not sure (do not remember ingredients) but they are whole grain, 100 cals, and taste pretty good. Also La Tortilla Factory whole grain (or whole wheat?) tortillas (think that is what they are called?) they are fab and satisfy the carb cravings. CC rates them an A.
Also an option: if you really, really want an english muffin, try eating half of one instead of a whole. I use that technique sometimes with lots of different foods and it works great to satisfy your craving with half the calories.
LMAO Salome, like when George did that with the Eclair!!
am i the only one who still eats carbs haha. i eat whole wheat pastas,
and light breads, and a bagel occasionally. (haven't had a bagel in
like a month tho haha)...my favorite dinner is whole wheat pasta, smart
balance, and parmesan cheese. lol....maybe i just make my calories work
for me in different ways because i know the type of person i am ahaha.
i say...EAT THE MUFFIN

I do eat carbs, I just try to eat whole-grain, so it's not so bad for
me. It's ridiculous how much of my diet was bread and pasta
before starting C-C. Thank you all for your suggestions!
I'm going to the kitchen, I'm going to eat half an english muffin, and
then I'm throwing the rest of that package away!

I totally still eat carbs, just in smaller portions. For example, if I make a sandwich, I only use one slice of bread, toasted, and just pile things on top. Giving up carbs for me would mean the failure of this whole effort right away, so I don't even want to try.
I still eat carbs.. Ill choose a multigrain now instead of just plain whole wheat.. Just like fakeout I usually only eat 1 piece of bread..
hey poobus, I eat La Tortilla tortillas all the time but I had to enter my own tag because I couldn't find them in the database! Where did you find them???
Yeah, no doubt...
If you cut out carbs COMPLETELY, then you are officially on a *dun dun dun* DIET.
Just be smart about your carb choices and don't have them with EVERY meal.

To add to what others have already said, I just want to point out that WHEN you eat carbs is just as important as what type and how much of them you eat.
If you keep the majority of your complex carb intake to just breakfast, before and after your workouts and/or cardio, then you will ensure that your body is making positive use of those carbs.
For meals when you're just not as active during the day, eat fibrous carbs (vegetables) with your protein and good fats. The veggies will keep you feeling full, give your body a good source of fiber and ultimately keep your blood-sugar levels even...which is the main cause for your body getting bad cravings in the first place.
Also, be sure to drink an adequate supply of water throughout each day.
These few little tips will go a long way in preventing any cravings for complex carbs during times where your body won't be making positive use of them.

I eat carbs. I am not going to tell myself I cannot have them, I believe in everything in moderation. I do attempt to eat whole grains and good carbs when ever possible. And I have limited my carb intake with portion control. But I am not going to beat myself up if I have an english muffin that is not whole wheat. I will simply count ito my daily calorie allowance. I would Freeze them and take one out and toast it when you really want to have one.
bread makes me hungrier ... so I try to avoid it
altho weekdays I have a sandwhich made with 1 slice of whole wheat multi-grain bread

I promise you, if you give up your white bread and baked goods you will reach a point where you don't want them. This past week I had some things made from refined white flour for the first time in months, because I had company. It sat like lead in my stomach. I never had that problem before - I was a real bread junkie. I guess my digestion has changed for the better and rejects the stuff now.
Good Luck

salome... OMG I thought I was the only one gross enough to do that!!! I dug, (well not really dug, it was on top) a tub of frosting out of the trash to get some but the frosting had not touched any of the trash!! LMAO reminds me of that episode in Sienfeld when George takes the Eclair out of the trash and eats it!!
salome, i am so with you! In fact, i often pour dishsoap on whatever deliciousness I have thrown out so that i am certain not to eat it. One shouldn't have to resort to that but...oh well. I do!
You need to be very careful with deleting everything you enjoy eating. You will find yourself giving in eventually, and binging on those things. Letting yourself eat small portions of the foods you enjoy is healthy. MODERATION is key.
I still eat carbs. I did the low-carb thing and it sucked. It worked but I couldn't live that way forever.
Now I just eat complex carbs as much as possible, but I did buy some Wonder Lite italian bread (40 calories per slice) for tuna sandwiches. It's really good, and like half the carbs of the "whole grain white" bread I bought before.
I also bought some brown rice. I'm not ready for wild rice yet, lol. I am trying to reprogram what foods I like. I'm trying to find low calorie-density foods to replace the higer calorie-density foods that I used to eat. That way I can eat more and stay within my calorie goal for the day. I discovered that I need to buy some lite mayo cause it has half the calories of the regular. I love this place! :)
