I miss cheese!

Quote  |  Reply
Since starting with calorie-count, I've realized how hugely caloric some of my best friends are:  cheddar, monterey jack, muenster and cream cheese!  I miss them!  Any creative ideas?

go low fat all theway. fat free tastes weird
I agree.  Low fat still tastes good without the fat and guilt!  I can't live without cheese and I'm not even going to try.
The kraft fat free American slices are actually good! And they melt which is even more exciting. (the old ff slices didn't) You can make a great grilled cheese sandwich out of 2 or 3 of them. The same goes with the Kraft swiss cheese. I know it is a small thing, but it does help. The FF cream cheese...takes a little getting used to, but it is better than nothing!
I usually get presliced (sp?)Tilamook Sharp Cheddar cheese, 70 calories per slice!
Its 'real' cheese, not a 'cheeselike product', very good.
everything in moderation! i always put some bleu cheese crumbles on my salad and they're SOOO yummy.
Sargento (sp?) makes a light string cheese that is only 50 calories a stick! I love it and it makes for a great snack! Although they are a little expensive. For 24 I pay 7.28!! Totally worth it though.
Laughing Cow makes a spreadable light swiss cheese that is really good!  It comes in a circle and cut into 8 triangle wedges.  Each wedge is 35 calories and it spreads alot so you can easily just use half of a wedge on a sandwich or wrap!
eat less of it, but make what you do eat central to the flavor.

try laughing cow light swiss cheese wedges in place of cream cheese. i can hardly taste the difference and it's only 35 cals per wedge.

sprinkle a little parmesan on some steamed vegetables.

have an ounce of cheddar with an apple or pear as a snack.

add a tbsp of feta to a salad or with some hummus in a pita.

always use light cheese instead of regular or fat free. it's healthier, but without the compromise in flavor & consistency.

Great ideas everyone!  Thanks!
Cottage cheese... mmm.. so good and low calorie.. it makes me want to hug a cow.
you can get extra light philadelphia cream cheese, if you get it in the little individual pack things then its 31 calories each and ensures you don't eat too much that way! it tastes really good! cottage cheese is yummy to and pretty low fat!
laughing cow or baby bell

light swiss is 35
baby bell swiss is 80
light baby bell is 50
I think cheese is just one of those "good things in moderation" things... no need to avoid it, just need to start learning to eat less of it and enjoy it.

Things like a really good brie, you just cant find a "low cal" version of it... and even if you could, it just couldnt match up to the real stuff (TONS of calories though).

So, instead of having cheese as a "meal food" ....start making it a "snack food".

A little bit of brie, some apple, on a small plate to make it look bigger (hehe). Then you can have it all the time (every day for snack if you plan your other meals right). Should be able to keep it around 200-300 calories all together.
Cabot makes a 75% Light Chedder that is delicious!! It's 60 calories per ounce & 2.5 fat.
I will never and absolutely refuse to give up Cheese!
Edit - duplicate entry
Edit -Holy triple entry sorry
I second loriklorik. No need to cut yourself of the goodness in life ~.^ Everything in moderation. I eat cheese everyday, and almost every snack time: FFCC (fat free cottage cheese) or FF or low fat cheese (laughing cow swiss light, 2% string cheese, FF cheddar/american cheese etc), parmesan cheese.

But there are times I indulge and get me some sweet truffle brie, having that with water wheat crackers and red wine jelly .... mmmm... or good ole' cheese fondue :)
goat cheese has less calories then cheddar etc.

i use that on my salads now :)

I put a little bit of parmasean on my lunch wraps and on my salads-- and in loads of other places! I love cheese. :) When used in moderation, it's great at helping me get all my calcium in for the day.
