What do you miss most?
I thought it might be fun to let everyone know what kind of food or drink we miss the most since beginning our new lives.
Beer: Being the good old Canadian boy that I am, I miss my beer. Hockey just ain't the same without my precious beer. I have one or two beers every couple of weeks for a treat. I can't remember the last time I had one though. :(
Olive oil: I miss the quantity of olive oil that I used to use . I do use it for cooking and salads but now I have to measure the stupid stuff since I've realized how many calories there is in it. Stupid oil! :)
Ignorance
I truely did not know how bad, yet tastey my eating habits were. ![]()
Today I was at a friend's house around dinner time, and my sister and I decided we were hungry, so we decided to get some take out from a nearby pizza shop and split it. We got salad...with all the dressing and chicken and cheese on the side. And as I stared at the menue, craving something to go along with it, I realized there just wasn't room in my diet for a slice or two of pizza or an order of onion rings.
So, what I really miss is going out to eat and just ordering whatever on the menue looks tasty, calories be damned. And I miss eating salad and being like "look how healthy this is!", totally ignorant of the fact that all those cheeses and croutons and creamy itallian dressing make it worse than if I had eaten pizza.
I really miss being able to just eat without adding up all the calories, and being able to have someone else prepare my meals for me.

I could go on for hours lol..but ill pick a select few
Mcdonalds - everything, Perogies, baked potatoe with bacon, sourcream and lotsa cheese, bagels with cream cheese, slurpees, oh henrey bars, tim hortons cookies, donuts.. i could go on forever!!
mmmmm.....perogies......*drools*
Cheese
Butter
Cheese
White bread
Cheese
Chicken Chimichangas (who cares that it is not even authentic)
Cheese
Ignorance
and Cheese
curly fries from arbys..mmmmmm..
and chocolate chip pancakes loaded with butter, syrup and wipped cream from ihop...(at one time i was able to eat 4 large ones) ...I dont even want to know how many calories that was.
"There was a time where I would buy a 20 pack of Timbits and eat the whole damn thing. That's like 4000 calories. Yikes!"
I loved, Loved, LOVED my Tim Horton's Coffee! I would drink 3 Large double-doubles each day, with all the cream and sugar they're about 230 Calories a pop! 690 calories just from coffee alone five days a week and this was usually before I even ate breakfast. Oh, and I'd sometimes get one of their cinnamon rolls with icing 470 cal, or the Cranberry Blueberry Bran muffin for 290 calories. So I was eating/drinking 980-1160 calories before lunch most days. Now I make my coffee at home with one sweetener and 1% milk for about 20 cals. I tried my Timmy's sans cream and sugar and it's just not the same
.
I also miss my beer. I used to have two to four almost nightly and more on the weekends with my girlfriends or I'd split a big bottle of wine with the SO if my son was gone to MILs for a sleepover.
Sunday breakfast with the works whether it was french toast, sausages, and eggs, or pancakes with bacon all cooked in tons of oil and grease.
I can't say I really miss these though because I'll still enjoy these things but in moderation (except for the coffee I just can't fathom drinking 230 calories when I could be getting the same effect for under 20 calories and for alot less $) and I love how I feel now that I am eating right and exercising. I had junk for lunch yesterday, the saying, "you are what you eat" rings true for me because I really felt like crap, and boy was I starving afterwards!

Hey Sweet. I've always used sweetener and cream. I started having milk instead of cream and I agree that it doesn't taste as good but you get used to it. I now have an XL 2 milk (2% is what they have) and 1 sweetener. It's around 30 calories.

i was just saying today to my friend - I miss this one Chinese brand instant noodle (the one with the japanese cartoon boy - chud cheen yut ding!) With the sodium in it and the msg, it's beyond a dieting/calorie restriction concern - it's just flat out not good for you. but BOOOOOOOY do i miss it - with some sausage and egg yum yum yum
i also miss:
- mcdonald fries
- cheese (if i could marry cheese, i would)
- nachos w/ sour cream, gauc, salsa
well actually I eat ramen noodles like 5 days per week cuz I found a label which only gives you 60 cals per container of 65 grams....soooooo it is not bad at all! and even if its a little bit high in sodium like 320 mg, who cares? they are yummy!!
Big meals and dessert.
I miss all good tasting food, and I was wondering, why all those bad things are the ones that tasted the greatest? I mean the body should reject that food telling us is not good, but instead we look for them, I mean have you ever felt any craving for a good and tasty piece of celery? well I haven't and as the body tell us when food it is not abe to eat when its rot and stinks it should be dissgusting for us the smell and flavor of fat and sugar, why is no??????? someone explain me T__T
Thanks for this thread, canadafats. And for insisting that we don't get into the "you can eat anything...moderation...denial provokes binging" stuff. I totally believe all that, and yet it is freeing to share the "grief and loss" associated with changing ones life. So what I miss:
Starbucks full-fat mochas + most of their pastries.
McD fries
Frosted strawberry Pop-Tarts
Ding Dongs (frozen)
Cheetos (remember the orange finger tips?)
Steak/baked potato/butter/sour cream/rolls/more butter topped off with cake and ice cream.
Mostly, like others have said, I miss being able to eat what I want and as much as I want whenever I want. I miss the unconsciousness that came with unbridled binging. I wasn't ignorant, but I was deliberately oblivious to what I was doing.
Fortunately, my body was not, and being 100 pounds overweight was no picnic (with or without the Cheetos)!
I agree, danaalmighty, that I have never binged on vegetables. Sugar and white flour are drugs in my system, that's why I crave them. They are not two of the four food groups, so when I ate them as if they were, I got sick and obesity was the most obvious symptom. Okay, back to reality...
I miss deep fried chicken strips and french fries.... I also miss homemade stuff like pancakes, cookies, cakes... you know all that fun stuff.
But to be fair my body has started craving the healthier items.
Refined carbs actually create a surge in dopamine or seratonin or something like that. Whatever it is that causes feelings of happiness. THAT'S why we crave donuts but not broccoli.
I will say that when I'm on a bad binge I do end up missing the feeling that comes from eating healthy.
Really I should just take up competitive swimming. If I was allowed to eat 10000 calories a day I could eat everything I wanted!!! Unfortunately, I'm too fat to feel comfortable in a bathing suit in front of other people.![]()
any kind of dessert! 85% fat yogourt, honey, baklava, cheesecake, chocolate, apple pie, rice pudding, chocolate croissant.... what an horrible post... now I sooooooo want sugar! hahaha
I'm glad everyone is enjoying this topic. I really hope that it isn't making everyone go out and binge on all these delicious foods. :)
Here are a couple more that I miss: Seafood Subway sub. Apparently it's the worst one for you. Now I eat the oven roasted chicken breast. Only 600 calories for a foot long. Onion rings, OMG onion rings! Hashbrown casserole, coated and deep fried honey garlic chicken wings.
I agree with everyone who has said this: "I miss just eating whatever and how much I want." :) Those were the days, huh? Don't you all remember how amazing it was but how awful you felt after?
thank god the habs are not playing tonight, otherwise, for sure I would have had a beer... don't tell me you're a leafs fan?
There is nothing that I miss as I have not given anything up that I love I just walk more and eat smaller portions. It worked for me as I started last May at 155 pounds and as of today March 7 I weigh 116 so I for one know that it can be done without being hungry or depriving yourself so that you fail is what I did in the past so could never keep it off as I would go right back to old habits. Today I had puffed wheat cereal and 2 percent milk for breakfast 170 calories 3 oz slice cheese pizza 305 calories and a 4 ounces hamburger with bun, relish miracle whip, onion and mustard 400 calories snacks half a banana, a fugi apple , ,1 ounce of homemade fudge with butter and marshmallo cream, 2 black licorice twists and 3 red licorice twists all of which comes to 1305 calories and I burned 1518. My normal intake is between 1300 and 1500 and my usual burn is 1800 to 2500 I have been sick last couple weeks so burn from walking is down but am not gaining in fact still losing but much slower. Good luck all it can be done. Kathy - kauikat@yahoo.com

Sens fan. Well, as much as I can be this year. :)
Oh, and deep fried zucchini and cheese sticks. Jalapeno poppers with cream cheese. (the cheddar ones just don't cut it.)
There is no food I miss as much as I miss the fantasitc T&A that I used to have. Weight loss does have it's pitfalls!
